amazing how 1600kgs (with a driver) & 450bhp now equates to 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds,, seems odd.
The F40 was 478 bhp, 1369 kg and did 0-62 in 4.7.

Shows the benefit of improved traction off the line from all the modern tech?
Tyres, rapid auto box, launch mode etc, its repeatable and doesn't have anywhere the same driver involvement, still pretty vivid though.

Thought the F40 just nudged under 4 secs though ?

The GTS will really be a sweet spot this time. An extra 30 BHP (going by previous generations) will give it proper super car pace.

Is the GTS usually difficult to get hold off or is supply plentiful?

So I’ve stuck my money down on one, so I am biased - but

Love the wide body look, so to have it on a boggo C2S is a real bonus for me
It looks the nuts, brighter colours work really well IMHO, ive gone for racing yellow + black look
Cant afford a Turbo / GT version, and an R8 / Aston is a good few ££££ more (new)
My £99,820 C2S delivers a great spec car (exhaust, Bose, chrono, pasm)
Yeah, an M4 etc is good, but those were never a poster car for me, the 911 is iconic
I’m financing it and the relatively low depreciation just makes the numbers work

Is it a sports car or a gt car? Dont know, dont really care, but i do know it will be a blast on a sunday morning and will effortlessly deliver mrs dgswk to the south of france via the alps from time to time without complaint. If thats the target customer, then bullseye Porsche. And I will smile eveytime i walk past it on the drive and get in my shed car and go to work....

Thus far the comments have related to the test drives and the model as the “base Carrera” - it actually isn’t.

The models being tested are the only ones currently to be offered for sale which are “S” specification 2 & 4 wheel drive versions. Yes they are much more powerful and very close to previous generation ‘Turbo’ models.

No doubt the true base 992 Carerrra will be 30 - 50 bhp down on the new ‘S’ - and of course be nudging or exceeding the 991.2 S for bhp and torque.

As a further observation, owning an older aircooled 993 4S - I find that to be a true GT car in its feel on the road. No doubt people will say it’s because it’s a Carrera 4 (though 100% rear drive most of the time) with a touch more weight over the front - like having a loaded travel bag in the front.

Porsche’s true out and out sports car 911s have always been the RS versions I would suggest.

Considering the last base model 991.2 could do 0-60 in 3.4, the new one should be beating everything that isn’t over $200k

Mr Harris reckons on his Top Gear video that the 992 is still a sports car.

Am top of list for 992RS at my dealer to add to my existing RS cars. Have a bit of an addiction to them. This is a promising start.

I left M cars once the 4.0litre V8 was replaced by turbo power and bought a 991.1S which was an obvious move if funds allow. Porsche make excellent cars but access to the GT range is by invitation only and this is really where the rewards are to be found from a driving perspective. The 991.2 T proved the demand for a driver focussed 911 is stronger than ever and I am pleased with my manual car.....lets hope the 992 range includes an even lighter more powerful version

Love that chalk colour in this generation, but now seeing the “boring” red, and I think it looks even more stunning than in chalk!

Sooner or later their size will make a T version impossible, I think the 991.2 T will be increasingly harder to replace.

are you joking? the T version is the easiest version to make, just remove satnav/stereo, add fabric door handles, make a couple of options compulsory, optional rear seat delete and decals. "lightweight and driver focused"

You forgot to add some decals & use the term parts bin special.

I wouldn't go that far. Maybe 0-60 it's not too far off, but beyond that it definitely isn't supercar territory. 720S or 488GTB are much quicker.

Funny, I was thinking how amazing it looks in red and not so good in the grey, especially from the rear where there is too much of it (grey paint I mean) on view.

The second half is exactly what these are about tbh. So many people get caught-up in the "What a 911 should be" or "What a sports car should be" and how cars like this mean the world's going to hell in a handcart.

The people who actually buy them don't seem to care. I'm seriously thinking about some flavour of 911 for my next car (ideally a 991 - failing that a 997.2).

If you don't mind me asking, what is the finance like on something like this? I'm sure the man-maths can make it good value.....

Does the gear selector not bother anyone else?

I really enjoyed the solid clunk of the previous PDK selector, this doesn't look as satisfying. Perhaps an odd thing to complain about.
