Agreed.

Do people just paint them black as they are too lazy to wash their wheels properly?
Maybe its a just a difference in opinion to you guys? What makes us human and all that…

Thanks all. This thread definitely made me smile. Who’d have thought that a simple “what colour black” thread could become so elitist.

I’ve got the car booked in for next week. Had a look at anthracite and smoked chrome as well as black. Don’t need to make a final decision until I drop the car off but I’ll be sure to update this thread with a picture once they’ve been powder coated.

Here’s a little bit of a photoshop thing I did on my iPhone last week. I do prefer black than silver. If that makes me council estate so be it biggrin

I used to have black alloys on my 911 but changed them for silver as I wasn’t keen. Still got them in the garage as I’ll probably put them back on when I sell it.

Oh and I already have tattoos and do own a hoodie or 3.

Made your mind up about me yet?

How about if I tell you I’m a consultant in the NHS? The same consultant that people like you regularly look up to and trust their life to?

I suppose what I’m trying to say is that there’s no need to be so judgemental. I know we all judge others but occasionally there is more to a person than meets the eye.

Cheers again guys. Really made me smile this thread ;-)
Well said OP.

as everyone else has said, none. the wheels look fine the way they are. the black in any guise would ruin it.

I personally think that gloss black would look by far the best colour, looks uniform with the tinted windows ,black window trims etc

I’d we all liked the same things it would be very boring and we would all drive the same cars

With fat and unnecessary SUV's, many people already do.

But 90% of people here wouldn’t go for black so he is being different??

You may not like the “fat” SUV’s but clearly the OP does making him different??

Black alloys are fine if you want to go for the old school look of black painted steel wheels that the plastic trims have fallen off of.

Hi Rob smile

I’ll cast my vote for dark shadow chrome.

About half way between the body colour and jet black, with a really high gloss finish.

They’ll still catch the light and give contrast with the tyres smile

Hi Rob how are you doing mate? Long time no see. I didn’t realise you were on PistonHeads. You and Iva still got the Porsche’s? Hope you are both well buddy.

BTW thanks for the sensible response ;-)

Thanks also to those other sensible responses (I’m including those that said they’d personally choose to keep them silver).

Yup, all well here thanks smile

New family wagon does look nice. Did I miss the engine details??

Yes, still got two, as per my ‘garage’

I look forward to seeing your choice when they’re done smile

Another vote for as they are but it's not my car!

Personally think they have a bit more 'class' and I have always liked the X5 with those wheels. It's also a very nice colour.

Just looked at your garage mate. Think you’ve swapped the Cayman since we last spoke. Looks very nice, loving the colour and those wheels (if I’m looking at the correct car from your previous posts).

It’s the 40d - 3 litre V6, twin turbo, 313bhp. No slouch in a straight line considering the mass. Critics praised the handling in almost every review Ive read but coming from the 911 and M3 it feels like it might roll onto its roof at every bend laugh Probably says more about the competition than it does the X5 haha. The Porsche’s are supposed to handle well but again not going to be a patch on a non-SUV I guess...

Yes, the silver/black combo. Ever had a silver car, or black wheels, so makes a change smile

I feel the same. All the ‘Drives like a hot hatch’ comments do make me lol.
The Macan is still highly capable, but tend to drive it smoothly and slowly (ish)

As above. Gloss or satin black on the X5 below.
I’m heading over to the wheel specialist in Leeds this afternoon to get it booked in. They said they’ve got examples of both to view but wanted to get opinions from PistonHeads first.

Cheers.

Leave them as they are. Black looks ste.

I don't mind black rims on some cars. I think the ones on the 911 you posted OP looks pretty good.

But on SUVs I think silver is a bit less gangster. Also those rims on the BMW aren't a bad design but you lose all the details with them being black. smile
