I agree with him. So maybe Im a nutcase as well.
I am not interested in PCP or lease deals for £1k per month. I'd be equally happy buying an old RRS 4.2 Supercharged for cash and spending the change on other more interesting things.
So what? How is it relevant to a brand new 550hp 4x4 fun thing?I am not interested in PCP or lease deals for £1k per month. I'd be equally happy buying an old RRS 4.2 Supercharged for cash and spending the change on other more interesting things.
Why do you feel the need to inject comments like this into a thread that has nothing to do with PCP or lease or other older used cars? What purpose could it possibly serve?
Getting mad at theoretical customers of a 550hp V8 4x4 on line. An insanely normal thing to do on a forum that's supposed to be for motoring enthusiasts
It is surely perfectly appropriate to point out how an earlier iteration of essentially the same concept ( big sporty V8 SUV thing ) can be just as enjoyable for a fraction of the money.

Way way way way way overpriced.
This is not worth a premium over a Macan. No way.
JLR have shot themselves in the head ( again ).
Respectfully disagree 100%This is not worth a premium over a Macan. No way.

I think in perceived quality, class, size and "want factor" the Velar is a notch above the Macan.
Factor in a bigger V8 engine than the Macan can offer, looks that are more concept car than Audi Q5 in Macan's case, and if it was my money I would punt for the Velar.
Reboddied mass produced Audi Q5 vs hand built british concept car with roaring V8, for a little more money :-)
Basically a Jag F-type tarted up with unreliable tech. A compact-mid size SUV trying to compete with the class above. The profit on this thing must be off the planet. The Velar struggles to feel anything more than a £50k car. I’d also be embarresed driving the thing if it shares that riduculous ‘look at me’ exhaust sound.
You know those car video games where you can customise the car, changing the wheels and bolting on front and rear spoilers, exhaust, etc. until it looks a bit st? Yeah, that.

£86k is too much for a velar! People aren’t buying them as it is. I live close to Gaydon and even with all the company cars out and about I still see more Macans. A maxed out velar should be nearer £60k not £90k
The macan is a much superior car when it come to performance and looks.NomduJour said:
Old car in cheaper than new car shocker. If you don’t have £90k to spend on a new car, perhaps it’s not for you anyway?
Maybe I have the money but the car is not sufficiently attractive to tempt me to buy it? Is that not a valid position to take?. Looking at a new car and asking if it advances anything over the old seems perfectly reasonable to me. And I stand by that position - this new Velar is nice but it advances nothing over what JLR have been making for 10 years or more now.

Drive a first generation RR Sport, then drive a new one and tell me things haven’t moved on.406dogvan said:
Company failing due to a lack of vehicles which appeal to people who aren't well-heeled (or highly credit-worthy, at least) celeb-and-status-obssessives makes another vehicle for said demographic - competing with all their other vehicles which do that already.
The answer to your problems, JLR, is not another 5.0V8 vehicle - you need people to buy regular/everyday cars in volume or you will go bust quite soon.
Also - your quality processes need some work - try that instead.
I see what you're saying, but I think these new Range Rover variants are being designed to compete with niche SUV's offered by other manufacturers, so that they have every base covered so to speak. With regards to offering volume "regular/everyday cars", that's never been what Land Rover have been about as a company, Range Rover's in particular have always been high end 4x4's/SUV's. Their business model is clearly to keep Range Rover as a premium brand and charge more for their product, rather than offer stack 'em high, sell 'em cheap products with the RR badge tacked on.The answer to your problems, JLR, is not another 5.0V8 vehicle - you need people to buy regular/everyday cars in volume or you will go bust quite soon.

Err I don't know, perhaps because this is a forum and people are entitled to have a different opinion on something to you. That is the purpose of a forum, to instigate debate. Is that okay with you?NomduJour said:

Would many buy this over a RRS SVR?
I would. I could never see myself in an SUV but the more I see Velars on the road the more I think they look more like an estate car than an SUV. I actually quite like the look of them and would certainly have one over the other body styles.

Looks like you've driven them both. How was the Macan more superior? What made the performance and feel of the SVO Velar so much worse than the Macan?Edited by stumpage on Tuesday 5th February 14:23

I'm not sure about that. See more new or nearly new Range Rovers on the road now than ever, probably between 80-100 of the things every day on my 1/2hr commute to work. Ten a penny, not special or rare in any way - which is odd really considering the purpose many seem to have been bought for? If I take my Lotus Elise to work however then I'll probably see just one or two others on the road every month. If I take the C5 RS6 as I normally do then last time I saw another on the road was about 2 years ago and I've never seen another 'Plus' like mine.
