tailing people out of airport car parks
Discussion
Apart from the vast number of £3 or £4 charges that they receive, MAPLC have now tolled all of the local roads (inc the train station that we the tax payers paid for) so that the independant car parking companies are at a commercial disadvantage. Having stated in commercial negotiations that car parking was an incidental part of their business, they have now realised that the money to be made from stinging the travelling public can be materially more than handling aeroplanes. They have used commercially sharp practices supported by their part owners who happen to be the local planning authorities to support their monopoly.

Also noticed people tailgating others to get through the barriers at train/tube stations in London which is just really low.
Has happened to me on several occasions.s55shh said:

Oh no! A five minute bus ride! Holiday ruined...
The bus is only every 15 minutes, so likely you will have to wait more than 5 minutes for it to leave. And then yes, its only 5 minutes to T1. Although if you are going from T2 you will have to stay on the bus so (according to Manchester Evening News) likely 25 minutes to get to terminal. Then you can assist your elderly Italian relatives to luggage drop etc and get the same journey back. Of course don't be longer than 1 hour or you get fined £25.

Fixed that for you.
I suppose it helps keep council tax down for Greater Manchesters residents rather than provide an efficient service.
Maybe all airports should be run like councils eh ?
It is much more efficient now they charge for it, a lot less hassle getting into the airport, less queues and less fannying about waiting for people idly saying goodbye and dragging their heels while getting out their cases.I suppose it helps keep council tax down for Greater Manchesters residents rather than provide an efficient service.

Surely the main point here is he is honest enough to pay the bet but not the parking?!!
There seems to be a growing acceptance amongst certain sectors of the population that stealing from “the corporate man” is acceptable.
Some will of course see nothing wrong with it.
Personally I see it as endemic of the sort of selfish small minded petty behaviour of simpletons who leach from this country whilst all the time bleating on about how hard done they are.
Parking charges at an airport are scandalous though, they deserve some form of "punishment" imho. There seems to be a growing acceptance amongst certain sectors of the population that stealing from “the corporate man” is acceptable.

haha, I understand what you mean - he's just one of those people who doesn't have respect for any big business but would never steal from friends or a small shop. I'm sure everyone knows one.Monkeylegend said:
They did a documentary on Stansted airport a few years ago, other airports are available and documented, and they were saying that the targeted spend per passenger journey through the airport was something like £45 for all non flight related spend. It has probably gone up since then.
MAG have monetised Stansted in a big way since they took over, they probably earn more revenue per passenger now than a cheap flight to Spain earns Ryanair.
Was that £45 with or without parking? With parking, I've probably paid that each time I've flown through the airport. MAG have monetised Stansted in a big way since they took over, they probably earn more revenue per passenger now than a cheap flight to Spain earns Ryanair.
Without parking, the most I ever spend is a couple of quid on a coffee if it's a morning flight or a fiver on a pint in the afternoon or on a weekend away with the lads. Not sure how I'd ever spend £45 in an airport - what are people buying?

They’re not though are they. Say you are dropping 2 people - that’s £2 a head. If it really bothers you use the free transfer if you value money over time. TX.
As usual people want perfect service and can’t even be arsed to a pay a couple of quid a head for it.
It’s peanuts and it enables us to run airports and attract the infrastructure investment we need to sustain and development then. These places need money to run and deliver a return to their investors otherwise they wouldn’t do it. They don’t grow on the magic airport tree.
You want to get to a different continent for £50? Accept you’ll have to coff a pam shriver’s for being dropped. Get the free transfer if you’re that bothered. How to make it back? Don’t then guzzle 3 pints at the Weatherpsoons pre flight
Cheap air travel is one of the wonders of the last 20 years and we in the U.K. are blessed with some of the world’s best and cheapest routes - a sense of perspective here doesn’t go amiss
