I can’t answer that but all I know is that after having spent 11 days in the states surrounded on all sides by V8s, I got tired of the incessant noise pretty quickly.
Mumsnet might be a better site for you!

G.M. LS engines sound great [ I'm biased I've got an LS3].
My brother in law has got a C63 which sounds nice as well and my mate Steve has got a Maserati GT which also sounds lovely.

Ferrari 355 for me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StYScWta5eQ&t=...

That or a classic american muscle car. Depends which flavour you're in the mood for.

Mercs 6.2 litre V8 makes a nice noise

My old LS2 powered Monaro was okay sounding, but I don't think it is a patch on the M156 AMG unit.

The Voodoo V8 found in the GT350R is amazing & that's in standard form, it's closely followed by the 6.2 AMG unit.

At low revs under load

the AMG V8's,
TVR RV8's
Audi S4 always sounds good.

Mid range at higher Revs stuff with flat cranks like

Ferrari 458
TVR Cerbera AJP V8

There is also something to be said about a Flathead Ford V8. They have a sound all of their own cloud9

Indeed yes

A flatty with added speed equipment and open pipes, is pretty much the original performance engine of the masses, and still makes one of the best sounds there is.

Probably only bettered by a vintage Chrysler hemi on nitro biggrin

The old BMW M62 of the late 90's and the newer S65 engine in the E9X M3.

In terms of diesels, I'd say the Ford Lion engine in the Range Rovers of today.

Had three V8's(Cerbera 4.5/X5 4.8iS/E92 M3) and my favourite of the three was the X5(it reminded me of an American V8 which I love). I really liked the noise of the Cerbera at idle and at very high revs(a really angry noise). The V8 M3 was a massive disappointment exhaust noise wise for me, but I did really enjoy the induction noise with that engine.

The Merc 6.2 N/A V8 is another favourite of mine.

Although I have the saloon. The sound that this Growler medical car is making. Is one of the reasons I bought my C55

I remember when I was a teenager and saw and heard a TVR 400SE drive past me. I was just amazed by the sound and thought I'll get one of those one day.

I bought a 350i and thought that sounded good then I got a 400SE with a sports exhaust. I've never heard a car like it. Just awesome.
I had a 400 SE and a Maserati GranTurismo S, the TVR sounded amazing but I preferred the Maserati, I loved how the tone changed across the rev range,I could play tunes with the gear change. biggrin It is probably the best sounding car I have ever driven and I have driven some fairly special cars including a Zonda and Koenigsegg.
I am not a fan of most German V8s because they tend to just produce a tuneless blare.

Terrible driving but it does give a good idea of the noise.

I came in here to say “whatever V8 provides the sound effect for the intro of the Primus song ‘Jerry was a race car driver”, but this is pretty much it;

Whatever this is - anyone have an idea what it might be based on?
Sounds like more than eight cylinders and looks as though it’s modelled on a Dodge Viper which has a V10...
