Not really. That’s a monster engine without doubt, but you couldn’t plonk it in a road car and use it without regular maintenance and rebuilds!

Ford's GAA tank engine from WW2 was an all alloy petrol V8 of 1100ci.

I think a lot of people are missing the point.

It is a crate engine. Its 30,000 dollars. And it puts out 1000bhp. And not only that it is ( relatively ) small, light and it uses only a couple of radiators.

These numbers/configuration have never existed before. 1000bhp has been the preserve of tuners and OEMs with very deep pockets until now.

It is a very, very impressive feat of manufacturing and engineering.

Its the first engine to commoditise 1000bhp to third party car builders, there will be a lot of cool stuff built using this engine.

$109,000 for the engine - a lot of builds the Hellcrate would go into would cost less than that on their own!

Not to mention you won't have a warranty on that...

Buggati say their 100bhp engine produces1000BHP for the wheels, 1000BHP down the exhaust pipes, and 1000BHp for the colling. That's 750Kw. That will need more than a couple of radiators, and some pretty clever ducting to ensure the cooling works. It's not a 5 minute job designing that. Testing it will be fun.
