Some of the UK forums are a bit poncey, some are OK. But the US forums are very well informed and frequented.

I think it's a combination of bigger population, more Mercs sold, and enthusiastic self reliant owners. They have big well equipped garages, love doing manly stuff with tools and cars, filming and uploading it.

A cultural thing.
Not just me then. The UK Volvo forum is better for the older full sized models, but there is still some weird thing going on about viewing every single model made after yours as "not a proper Volvo" despite previously holding that view about the car you now own.

To me it simply seems like a chip on the shoulder about not wanting to look like you're only running an old model because you can't afford a newer one which is prevalent throughout UK forums, but completely absent in the US. The MX5OC is absolutely unbearable for it.

Briskoda is good for Skoda related stuff. Seems to be one of the better "one make" forums I've been on.

Has anyone else found that UK one make/model owner forums are all bloody awful? The ones I have to refer to most often are:

UK Jaguar Forum - pompous old farts usually with no technical knowledge, cliquey as hell, mostly boring ownership stories that include polishing the car a lot;
US Jaguar Forum - knowledgeable very keen to offer real in depth help;

UK Volvo Forum - same as Jaguar but without the polishing. True hatred of any model newer than their own;
US Volvo Forums - fixing things with string and glue with great technical knowledge, very keen to share;

UK MX5 OC - like the "Ask a total prick from an internet forum" piece on SniffPetrol. I remember when the NC came out half the forum rushed to pour scorn on it for every trivial detail, seizing on every way their NA/NB with holes in it could be considered better, and now they do the same for the ND. Bleating about how influential the MX5 "community" is so Mazda should take note. Right-o mate, they really care about the 4th owner buying it for £4k market; and
US Miata forum - dead helpful and very knowledgeable, great love for all the models and recognition that they all serve a budget/desire

Is this just because of the petty and envious nature of many Brits, or have I just been unlucky in buying cars owned by wkers hehe
I certainly agree with you over the Jaguarforums - the American one is pretty good, but the UK one, at least with the XJ40 I own, wasn't worth using.

For a single model rather than a single make, XJ40.com is usually pretty good though. It is inevitably a fairly quiet forum these days, but with good knowledge.

Uksaabs is brilliant. Very helpful people and an active social side too if that's your thing.

In my experience any time adults organise around a single area for leisure purposes it turns into a complete nightmare.

The only one marque forum I occasionally frequented was an Integrale one years ago and it was puerile and divisive.

I could never figure out why a bunch of strangers would waste hundreds of hours every year being nasty to each other and barely mention the actual subject they were supposed to be there for once.
One man's hobby is another man's mental illness.

Bini. Forums : see your dealer.
Omega owners forum. The dogs bollacks. So much information and help. Although occasionally you get the response "See the maintenance guides" with out a link to the actual guide.
Mx5nutz once you get over the pointless madness there's alot of help. Although.NCs are ste. (Pop up.lights for the win.

civinfo.com is pretty good for helpfulness and member insights, though not exactly a buzzing hive of activity!
Used to be, although many have migrated to the civinfo facebook group smile

Found RoverTech.net was excellent, loads of great technical info (priceless following collapse og MG-R), pretty helpful for totalnoobs like me and good banter.

Clearly active posters declined over years, then the owner seemed to through a hissy fit; stopped posting and let the hosting rights lapse.

MG-R.org is not so bad, though to me the level of technical know how for my model (600 Ti) is lower, but there's no other R600 specific OC.

I joined the UK TVR Club a few years ago but , due to constant US business travel, dropped out having not contributed or hardly attending any meets.
We did attend the Blackpool meet a few years ago but it was a wash out and the Sunday was cancelled.

In the US I joined the North American TVR Car Club.
Great bunch of guys.
I attended several of their annual 'Out of the Woodwork' car meets, the last few being in Carlisle PA.
At one of the Gala Evenings, there was an ex-employee guest speaker. Apologies I don't remember his name.
Anyway, mid-presentation, as he was explaining the sophisticated design methods TVR used to use, I had to interject and ask him to clarify to our American and Canadian members exactly what a 'Fag Packet' was. laugh

SELOC is great for tech info, fixes etc. I used to frequent NORLOG too, but that was for run outs etc but the FB page is easier to use now for me, this migration to FB seems to be the trend.

No need to stop going on the forum if you sell the car. We're a friendly bunch generally and there's plenty of general chat in the "Coffee Bar". smile

Volvoforum is absolutely brilliant for top rate response to any problems, stuff wanted or far sale, split into differing ages, models etc.
Won't hear a bad word said against it.

Uklegacy is good too

Only one I've found to be not great was the corolla UK forum, I asked a few simple questions and got jumped on for not being a Corolla expert, which of course is why I went there is ask questions
Finding the same tbh. Full of dead heads and it's quite clicky so if your a newcomer it's hard to intergrate into the group. Not many are keen to share info either. Plus the main breaker on the page has left me hanging for a month paid and nothing no tracking details no item. Will probably come off it I think.

Ignis sport owners club is by far the best one I've been involved in. The forum is pretty dead now but the Facebook page is buzzing

Plenty of info available friendly atmosphere.
I've broken up a few ignis and even sent items to people without Payment and then pay up when been paid with no issues. Any idiots get a warning and then booted off

Peugeot 406 oc is a great forum with great guides..

There's also a very active facebook group for them too, with people always willing to help you out.

Didn't realise there was a following for the 406's until I got one, but there is.

Awesome. smile

And Subaru Forester forum (US based) is packed with informative discussions.
