RE: Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG estate | The Brave Pill

Love our W212 7 seater (350cdi). Struggling to imagine what we’d replace it with as I am no fan of MPV/SUVs. My 5’1” girlfriend occupies the third row when my parents are with us on family day trips, so no-one has to have a child seat digging them in the ribs. Apparently it’s a little disconcerting facing backwards as there’s no anticipation of upcoming bends - not that I exploit that of course...

I understand what he means, it really isn't difficult. He is saying that people who are not interested in cars do not even notice the badges, at all. So it would not matter if he had a 635d badge or an M6 badge, people who aren't into cars might see badges, but they think nothing of them. That's what I take from his comment anyway.
I've 'de-badged' every car I've owned, as I think it looks better. Simple.the_hood said:

Seems like a pretty simple answer to me......... another diesel E-Class Estate!!! I've driven bid diesel A6 Estates (Avants) for donkeys now, not that I'm an Audi fanboy, but purely as they were the only big estates with 4wd for that length of time. I get an urge to replace it every now and again, but as it's a daily driving workhorse (208k miles on it now!!) and has still been absolutely faultless all that time, I bring myself back to earth by asking 'do I NEED to change it? Or is it just that I WANT to change it?' And when I remember the thing was paid for years ago and costs bugger all to run, it becomes a fairly easy decision to make, knowing that I could instead spend all those 'saved' thousands of pounds on another ancient 'project' that will probably sit in the barn for another year, before I find time to actually do something with it!
Anyway, after all that drivel, apart from a new(ish!) diesel S6, one car that REALLY has peaked my interest, is the new Mercedes Plug-In Diesel Estate: E300de. I've loads of space outside to park up and charge, so I can get all the plug-in benefit, plus a nice economical diesel for the longer journeys when I need it (considering that here in Ireland, diesel is MUCH cheaper than petrol). I don't do leasing or finance, so will wait a couple of years before all those deals have run through and they start coming on to the used market. Biggest downside to me though, is this also still lacks 4wd, and I really do end up driving in crappy parts of the country which get even worse when 2 flakes of snow start riding each other, so that is STILL a significant negative for me. And then when you are able to fly in and out of the Goodwood FOS campsite when it gets completely 'mudlocked', you realise that Quattro is a HELL of a lot more capable than you realise. Oh, and I'm still laughing at being able to literally drive rings around my mate's wife's 2WD X5, stranded in the field we overnighted in at last years Metallica concert in Slane...... a 2WD BMW X5?? That thing fugging DESERVED to be left sat rot in a muddy field - fuggin' cynical abomination of a brutal piece of ste!!
Damn, this lock-down is really beginning to sink in...... 6am on a Monday morning, and writing this absolute load of tosh will probably be the highlight of my day.
Stay safe all (which I guess is the new 'good luck/take care/have a good day' now! )
I have this engine in a CLS, and I think it is a phenomenal unit. I had the 55 Kompressor in a W220 S Class a few years back. That was also an impressive lump, but I the M156 has more character.
For the money, think this E63 represents great value. The soundtrack is thunderous and it just pulls all the way.
And whilst I am not usually a big fan of black wheels, I think they look ok on this overall. I would put the some original Mercedes badges back for the centre caps.

So is this car Airmatic or coils like the W212 E63? If the former, there's an aftermarket controller available that allows you to slam it when you want to or raise it all the way up, or any setting in between, even adjust the car's stance for pitch and rake between front and rear...
And if you're really bothered about the 6.2's relative paucity of low-end torque, there are superchargers for these things that add 200bhp (plus a lot of torque). You can also get M156s well over 600bhp N/A at the expense of a little torque...

Not tried the 63 but had a 55 wagon in silver and it felt pretty quick at the time. I once had a little duel with a modified EVO 6 and the bloke was somewhat flabbergasted that this family wagon was pulling away from him.... It was super quiet though, with only a bit of s/c whine at the top end. The SL55 at the time had the same engine I note, and sounded like a Spitfire, so I always wondered if an exhaust fettle could sort that on the E55...

Surely it sounded more like a Messerschmitt BF109? Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
