Ford Focus and Mondeo, with the Mondeo there's actually plenty of room underneath for a propshaft and diff due to them being based on a 4wd floorplan

Not in RWD but there's plenty of haldex cars I think should just be FWD. The AWD just adds unnecessary weight and drivetrian loss.

First thing I thought before I even opened the thread. It looks like a mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive car.

You had me until the MINI! I think all MINI hatches should be FWD due to the heritage of the original Mini being FWD.

I used to own one and read a bit into the development of it and why they made it FWD. They did tests comparing FWD vs RWD and found that FWD was faster in the majority of situations. It was a great steer and handled really well with quite an unusual front setup for that vastly reduced torque steer.

The Lotus Elan M100 had an Isuzu powertrain and after production ceased the design was produced for a short period by Kia with their own 1800cc N/A unit, I think.
I’d like “my” RWD version to have a Ford Duratec unit with about 200 bhp. smile

I came here for these three. No-brainers, really.

Might have been magical, back in the day.

I have one of these as a daily driver. Pininfarina did all the cool stuff and Peugeot the oily bits.
It's a great fun, comfortable thing when driven normally but as soon as you start to push it there's rather a lot of surrender.

Weirdly, in normal use it feels much more together than the 406 saloon or estate who seem to behave much better under pressure.
Perhaps it's an Italian thing...

That looks great, but if you wanted RWD there was the 504 Coupe some of which had V6 engines and looked stunning!

The 504 coupe and convertibles were glorious things. Rather costly these days too.
