Don't get me wrong he was a fan but didnt he prefer the R26R as it had been a previous winner of the EVO COTY ? I cant see Youtube whist at work.

Miss mine. What a car. I can't understand a few of the comments saying the Phase 2 was boring to drive. It was anything but! Managed to spin it twice on the way to work on a cold and wet country road.. bot boring!! and took it on trackdays to spa, the ring, and several UK tracks. It was always really involving to drive and you had to be so alert to keep it anywhere near the limit. Not the most cultured handling but definitely fun! I bought mine when they were dirt cheap and sold it when they weren't a lot more expensive than that. One of only two cars I truly regret selling.

Is that my old one? Cat C, purchased for nothing from Targa Florio?

I hear you. Reminds me even more of a 6R4 personally. Similar layout.

I don’t really care that they might not be the last word in dynamics or even that fast...just look at them. They look ace and are as mad as a box of frogs.

I love how a >15 year old Clio that gets to 60 in under 6 seconds and knocks on the door of 150mph is seen as ‘not that fast’ or ‘slow as xxxx’ !

That’s quicker than the legendary 320d even - at sub 100 speeds

Only on here.....

Looks a fun car to me however

They aren't as fast as the look. The older Civic Type R with 197bhp was a match for straight line speed.

They are crazy looking things. Like all other classic cars I struggle to justify the prices.

What I've learnt after many years of trying all sorts of high performance cars is that ( especially now) you can have far more fun on the road in a hot hatch.

Feeling the tyres biting into the road and having to get on the gas earlier and carry corner speed is far more enjoyable that 'point and squirt'.

We've swapped P cars for a Focus ST3 and an R26R with no regrets.

My son and i are heading out saturday driving both cars with walkie talkies int he cars.

Now thats what i call fun !

Maybe so, but a Clio V6 appeals to me so much more than the Honda, even with the price disparity.

I struggle to afford most iconic cars to be honest but it’s all demand driven which is why they are a lot

Maybe, but if you took a normal, 'non-car' person out in one I'm sure they would think of it as fast.

Who worries whether or not someone else thinks their car is 'fast'

Personally I buy my cars for me, not for other peoples perceptions biggrin

They'd also wonder why you've 'max-powered' your Clio.

Ah a thread that brings a tear to my eye.
Had two, wish I hadn’t sold my last one as it was perfect.
Would now, just 6 years on from sale, be worth more than double than I sold it for.
The one that got away.

An old friend/colleague of mine won one of these, complete with insurance and service deal, through an Autocar (or Autosport?) competition when they were new, in metallic blue and autographed by then-World-Champion Fernando Alonso, so must have been 2005-07.

Loved it, multiple-track-dayed it, sold it after 12 months a happy man.

I can imagine.

I remember around 2009 I looked long and hard at a Phase 2 one for c£15k, and a Phase 1 model for £8.5k.

Decided it was too extreme and bought a Civic Type R instead as it would give me the fun I needed in a practical package. Looking back, I should have bought the Ph1 model and a sensible daily driver.

Oh how I am kicking myself now.
This. In 2008 I was in between pulling the trigger on an Illiad Blue phase 2 V6 or a white Megane RB26, both at circa 16k. Test drove the V6 and it was nothing short of incredible and turned every head whilst driving through town. But as the car was intended as a daily driver, it felt too special so went with the RB26. A great car to be fair but I always wonder what would have been.

Bit sluggish for a 2.9L motor! In a small car like that as well. Looks nice though.
