I still see quite a few of these around my way. Seem to be driven by women in their 30's/40's who look 'alternative'. Paint a car in an unusual colour and women tend to love it no matter what it drives like.

In my head I’ve got a scenario where a genius Honda engineer finally gets his dream to lead and design his car. He comes up with the HRV, with ideas of young people having fun, roadtrips, weekends away, going windsurfing in his car.

Instead, every one built spent its days in a garage, then doddling along an A road at 39mph to the nearest garden centre. Never carrying more than 2 pensioners and a tartan blanket.
ooh there's some ageist st on this thread - my 79 yr old dad drives a Boxster S and a Ghibli...

I disagree. Stating that all HRVs are driven by OAPs is not the same as stating all OAPs drive HRVs.

Fair play to your dad though. thumbup

Always liked the “joymachine”

This one seems strong money for what it is considering they are hardly rare at this price point
Wasn't the JoyMachine the one where the wipe-down clean vinyl seats folded down into a double bed? I seem to recall the show car had a tissue dispenser too.

I can't imagine picking a girl up in something like that...

Amazed we got this far in without Hormone Replacement Vehicle being mentioned biggrin

It will be a very reliable shed pending rust issues but, whilst I kind of like the styling, I find it hard to imagine owning one ...

I was thinking it is more like "Phyllis Pearce" colour... which is serendipitous.

I think Shed missed a trick with this, by not pointing out its international motorsport success.

An HR-V (2WD) was entered on the 2001 Daily Telegraph Sahara Challenge Trophy by the late David Winstanley (he or Acceleration Television fame), co-driven by Paulk Hargreaves. They won their class.

There: instant street cred.

A great Shed IMO.

For those saying 'refuse to die' and 'reliable' - my old boss had one then a mk1 CRV. Both ate suspension parts for breakfast on Highland roads, both developed (particularly CRV) squeaks and rattles that really annoyed. Yes generally reliable, but maintenance was relatively high.
Whack some winter tyres on and these make brilliant outdoor enthusiast cars - fling masses of kit in the back, boats or bikes on the roof and go.

There used to be a silver one riding around on spinners back in the mid 90s around the derby area. As a child I loved it laugh

Oh my god, it seems there wasn't just one - http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=...

fair enough and i guess in retrospect me telling my dad he had his mid-life crisis 35 years late was a bit wrong :-)

Rear wing /spoiler thing is a bit much ,as mentioned .
That would depend. If it's a wing, then yes, seems a bit redundant, but if it's a spoiler then it's there to reduce the drag caused by that big, flat back as it moves through the air. Ever notice the back of some hatchbacks gets really dirty? That is road grime pulled onto the back of the car by the low pressure caused when the car punches through the air and indicates poor aerodynamics which would be improved by a spoiler on the roof.

Or it could be purely cosmetic, in which case it'll probably generate lift and drag!

For me these were like the music back then. At the time it was not my thing and I did not like it, however now with rose tinted glasses....

I do remember VBH reviewing it on Top Gear. At the end of the test she said she would now take it off road as it was expected to be used. Queue a camera shot of the front left being driven on to a curb and then the car stopped.

Loved the HR-V (often considered them), but for the same money the CR-V is better shed territory with the 2.0l vtec engine. So I put my shed money there. Plus you get a picnic table and ice box cooler - lol. My CRV has just clocked 155K miles (and it too has a spoiler - chuckle), had the rear arch to sill rust repaired and been the most reliable shed ive owned across all my cars. It refuses to die too.
