Rear overhang and the central screen are enough for me to be out.

It's only because of the EV industry that you're even aware. Your own home is full of objects that you have bought that have used Cobalt. Your driveway has objects parked on it that use Cobalt. The only industry actively moving away from using Cobalt is the EV industry. Yet despite this Cobalt has become one of the latest looney focal points to attack EVs when there are so many genuine and blatantly obvious issues.

Banging on about Cobalt is like not minding paedos chasing kids in a playground until a ginger one turns up and somehow being ginger is the big issue. wink

It will be a success IMHO. There aren’t many right-size SUV EVs about at the moment for a decent price.

As for the Mustang branding? It’s done it’s job if we are talking about what might otherwise be an also-ran bland offering buried in Ford’s line-up.
£60k for something that isn't an Audi? I wondered if the price point was well above Ford's branding for what, in the UK, is a local shopping car for the more affluent. Are people who buy Fords going to be at that price point? It seems unlikely.
Entry level is £40k.
Much more palatable. You've got to really love Ford though. The Fiesta and Focus are massive sellers because they are great products at the price point where most Ford consumers are. Above their levels you can see that the bulk of consumers opt for the other German products.

Objectively it would be difficult to argue that it's not a Mustang.

I really like it, EV with decent range in a SUV format for £40k. Sounds like a great recipe for a family car.

I will confess I am not bothered about the name of cars.

If Steve McQueen would still be alive today, would he drive the new Mustang Mach-E? I don't think so ...
I'm sure this EV is a great car, I just wish Ford would have given it another name.

The new Mach 1 on the other hand ... oh yes!

Setting aside the sensitivities of squandering the Mustang name on an elephant, permanently in the room, I just hate the way this thing looks.

Because Peugeot pinched the three bar lights, some mayl think this is a big Peugeot.

I'm all for EVs but I'm still waiting for a new modern/futuristic design language or shape so they stop looking like boring ICE cars.
Have manufacturers completely run out of ideas?

It's that enormous screen glued on the dash that seems to mean the product is aimed at minicab drivers, day traders and s thought. I'm surprised they didn't get Dunelm to do the rest of the interior for the full caravan look?

The "name" of a car isn't what would make me buy one (or not). So I don't really care about the thrust of this PH article.

What does matter to me though, is whether or not the car is any good, particularly in relation to what else is out there.

And I have to say, I'm not really impressed with this. Tesla is, for me anyway, where I'd be looking.

Yes it is. It says so on the Ford website. And in the press release. "Mustang Mach-E"...right there in plain English.

Ford have pooped the bed on this one how you go from coupe to SUV i don't know. Its only a name but....they may regret that down the road !

I am sure it will sell though as it doesnt look to bad.
Ford PRE-SOLD every single one they built in 2020 in the US - definitely pooped the bed and regretting it, I'm certain.

I’m hoping that these are really the early days of EV designs.

Freed of the massive lumps of iron that have to be accommodated into any ICE designs, designers will eventually be able to play around with shapes I hope.

I think there is already thoughts about making batteries part of the structure of vehicles so that they do a useful job rather than just hanging around being heavy.

That kind of thing.

It’s just a name, just a brand geezz... I thought PH would judge a vehicle on merits and performance not what badge, or in this case what it’s name is.

Would it have been better to be the new Ford Mondeo-E?

I actually think they've done a great job with this. Used the Mustang name to make it appear more premium, crossover type car which is the most in demand type at the moment, sharp looks, great spec, and the extended range rwd model really hits the spot with 379 miles of range. For someone who doesn't like the Tesla interior layout of a wooden kitchen table and a glued-on iPad, this seems like a fantastic alternative.

This is an unbelievable step up from the shocking Focus E from a few years ago. Well done Ford.

How many of you who think it's a travesty to sully the glorious Mustang name by sticking it on a weird looking EV have actually driven a regular Mustang? For the most part they've been super cheap look-a-likes of decent Mustangs that you can rent at any US airport for $19 a day. Ford have been using the Mustang name to sell complete shyte for decades; if anything this thing is a vast improvement!

Well that's why they went with the Mustang name, because a £40-£60k Ford is a hard sell.

Exactly. It would appear many on here just want to stick their fingers in their ears, tightly squeeze their eyes shut and say "nur nur nuh nur nur". Whatever. The car is called whatever Ford wants to call it and they absolutely have the right to do so, seeing as they own the name.
