To make it an automatic yes, from me it would have to be a Bigwig.

I'd work out where I could use it afterwards.

But a roa legal one...? Thats far too tempting so take my deposit and get a shufty one!

As I've opted for self assembly, could you deliver it in a crate, all black with Beatties logo, etc written down the side, please?

Thought I was the only one silly enough to keep their Beatties hold-all!

Beatties! When I was a kid, I used to stare through the window of Beatties with so much want. Sadly, I was never in a position to be able to afford anything in there.

I would then shuffle-off to Forbidden Planet and Comic Showcase........followed by a bowl of wonton soup at the Wong Kei......them was the days!

Ha, you're going to be in the doghouse. I have done the same though, will wait and see what the demand is like for them as I can see it being just like the Tamiya RC I built a couple of years back, great fun to build but saw about 2 hours use and is now on display. If the demand is there then it could be one to just enjoy building and sell, but I'll bet most people are in the same boat where the build is likely to be the main draw.
Ha! So are you.. Want to rent a double doghouse? We can then be neighbours hehe

That Beatties bag..... It came free when I had saved up for my Toyota Celica GrB Rally Special 1:12 and bought it from Beatties in Sheffield. That and the Rough Rider i had went to a PH'er some years ago

I came here to say exactly the same thing. The price felt like a misprint compared to other LCC products (which are great, btw!)
Thank you!

We went for a Tamiya as it's much simpler and easier to build so we could get the price down to more affordable levels.

The challenge with the Baby II and the DB5 is that putting the same dials in a 66% DB5 as you get in a 100% DB5 isn't 66% of the price. Because we try to include all the detail it just massively adds up in terms of cost so we can't keep the price down without cutting loads of corners which we didn't want to do. And would have been disrespectful of the original as well.
The DB5 and Baby II are works of art - you're always going to pay more for that. winksmile

If I had an empty garage (and somewhere to use it regularly), I would have ordered a Tamiya in a heartbeat. At the minute my garage contains a 1960 Mini undergoing full resto, so I can't tick either of those 'requirement' boxes. frown The Mini has already cost more than the Tamiya and actually looks like a full size model kit that's been thrown all over the garage and left to rot. rofl (Disclaimer - still in the teardown stage, so just looks fit for the scrappy atm.)

Good luck with the project - I imagine LCC will be able to shift a few of these over the next couple of years.

I remember having the poorest parents out my group of mates - they both bought boomerangs with the 4WD - i had to buy the 2WD grasshopper.

Yep - I got a used Optima Mid. Managed to get it pretty fricken fast, but couldn't live with the Schumacher Cats around an indoor track. frown

I presume there is no way of making this a two seater? Even if it is a small second seat for kids?

Just get your passenger to stand on the rear cage like those kids who stand on the back of a pushchair. smile

Nope! I've got one with a Tamiya Porsche 959 that I will restore at some point (been saying that for years!). I think that there are another few that have been languishing in my parent's loft for a few decades.

Well deposit placed.... let's hope it's somewhere near the quote price (although obviously money will be spent making it do a wheelie)...

I'll admit I don't get this one.

The Tamiya buggies were typically copies of 1970s sand rails, so why not just have one of those instead? This is a copy of a copy of a copy, and just doesn't do it for me.

While I don't really get the Tamiya nostalgia thing, I really enjoyed putting a Schumacher CAT re-re together over lockdown last year. Fondly remember reading race reports in magazines in the early 90's with loads of pics of Schumacher and Associated buggies.

some really interesting engineering in these- Cecil Schumacher was an ex-Cosworth F1 transmission engineer smile

One of my neighbours has a Twizy - would this be roughly as quick as one of those? Would be quite a fun thing to have for trips around town etc and not that expensive.

A Tamiya with a 540 sport tuned motor and ball bearing axles and transmission was quick enough when I was 12. Increased the run time too! I do hope they name their performance packs with similar names. That would be the best EV on sale!

We'll be 250kg v 450kg and have up to 15kW for the road legal v 13kW for the Twizy.
Doesn't sound a lot, but the Bugatti Baby weighs 250kg as well has only 10kW and has hit 50mph in testing. Gets there pretty quick too.

We really want to. We might do an optional wide chassis which is a bit less authentic, but allows 2 seats. The space is pretty tight if we stick to the proportions.
You'll notice we've already had to lift the roofline a bit....

What's required to make this road legal in the UK and how much does that add to the price?
We're going for L6e or L7e quadricycle. L6e will be pretty cheap we hope with just 4kW / 30mph top speed - hence the base spec. It's going to need road tyres, mudguards, indicators, loom upgrade etc, but nothing major.

L7e will be max speed >50mph, and you'll need more battery packs and a bigger motor to get more power out. Each pack can put out 4-5kW peak, and you can run up to 4 in parallel. L7e power limit in the UK and EU is 15kW.

We're really going to try and keep it reasonably priced - we want as many of these in the hands of people to enjoy and build a community, rather than disappear off to the Maldives with a suitcase full of cash!
