This brand-new automobile is a full second slower 0 to 60 than my 10+-year-old Cayman.

Curiously, I don't give a flying fk. I'm on the wait list for the 2023 German shipment. This is huge for me, because it would be my first new car in decades, and my first Japanese car ever.

Can’t quite work Toyota out at the moment.

They say the reason why the Corolla won’t come to the UK is because they already have 3 GR models in the UK.

2 of which you can’t order

The whole GR86 release has been farcical. Web pages crashing constantly and only 400 odd cars available.

When asked when the next batch of cars are going to be available you are met with the same generic response. Put your name down on the wait list and we’ll let you know as soon as we know.

The same wait list they told everyone to join that missed out on the GR Yaris (which has now been removed completely as they aren’t making anymore).

Clearly underestimated demand for GR cars in the UK.

The dont have any more cars and can't produce more of them, other markets are fighting for allocations awell. The waiting time even for normal family suvs can be about 1-1.5 years at the moment if you haven't noticed, it's quite a crazy market, which many people seems to have missed.

Intelligent, well researched article, it’s a shame a few readers are struggling…. wink
It’s free content people! Stop being so bloody negative!!
Anyway - Car sounds great - Toyota are on a roll.
Indeed. Nics prose isn’t supposed to be the currant bun it’s much more interesting. Here and there a bit of subbing might add something. Enhancing facets doesn’t sound quite right although it technically is, and ecsorcel is a bit silly and detracts a bit, but it is a thing.

Stress-free is a phrase better applied to the way the GR86 corners than how it accelerates

Are Subaru releasing something similar?

Also - take this writer's thesaurus away from him please - his prose is ridiculously verbose and unnecessarily flowery.

Another Nick Cack classic. Borderline unreadable.

I only persisted as I am eagerly awaiting delivery. Still no idea on ETA but looking like 2023.

Sounds like, from what I could glean, it's worth the wait.
Proof, it were needed, that having a wide vocabulary does not make you an engaging writer. NC fancies himself as William F Buckley but comes off more as a pound shop James Joyce. I gave up before the halfway mark.

Love the car by the way, but it's one I hope to one day get a go in - any idea of owning one I gave up on long ago.

Glad I’m not the only one who found this article challenging to get through.

I would also question whether the GR is better looking than the GT86. I loved the GT86, owned one for about 18 months before house purchase forced me to sell. Loved the looks, not sure the GR improves on the GT, it looks like a slightly flabby facelift.

I had to look up "ensorcel", why not use enchant?
It does say the torque dip is gone though.

There is a new BRZ to go with the GR86, but it's not coming to the UK.

I had a GT86 for about a year - kept it standard and managed to enjoy a very short but awesome track time with it.
I'm unreasonably fond of open top cars, so I swapped it for an MX5 ND.
Still, I have fond memories of the GT86 and I was hoping to get a test drive of the GR86.
I wasn't expecting the reduced allocation, I guess I am not aligned with the times.

PS - the article was not written for a fluent consumption. A few people seem to have noticed though rofl

Agreed. And LJKS could often be hilarious to offset the work required to get through his columns. This is just hard work without the reward!

Example: Article says “…but the joy of driving it (MX 5) is mostly nestled in its imperturbable, knowingly carefree attitude at moderate speeds. The new GR can do this, too - on smooth Spanish roads it floats along with note-perfect elan…”

= the MX 5 can be enjoyed at sensible speeds on the road, and the GR Is equally good at involving the driver even when not pressing on too”.

I know Nic gets some stick on here, and we do have to bear in mind of course that PH content is free but this one really was a slog!

I disagree. I enjoyed the article as it was written.

I enjoy this style of writing. Its refreshingly different by being a little more challenging. It expanded my vocabulary.

I love my tuned GT86 with ramp, exhaust, headers and consequent torque dip removed and an extra 14bhp. It will be awesome when the likes fFennsport do a similar package for the GR86.

hm, not a fan of that steering wheel, the airbag middle cirkel is good, but then that ugly other circle around it... its Wong ;-)

also both side air outlets, left and right, the outer circle covering is way to big, its to much in your face in a 'bad' way.

Surprised to hear the new one is actually lighter than the old GT86

I’m astonished to read roughly as many comments criticising the style of writing as comments about the car in question. I too found the article tedious & skipped most of the second half. I’m wondering if the author himself reads our comments. If so, would he care ?

The GR86 seems to be everything the GT86 should have been!

Seems to me like too little too late, especially as they are all sold out anyway. frown

Blimey that's a tough read !

I gave up on several occasions and only kept going as I really like the car...
Totally agree. I've just got through it (well, got through the first half then gave up). I was sorely tempted to get my name down for one of these and that's what kept me going in the article, but I lost the will to finish it. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who struggled with the writing!!!

Edit: ironically, I've had to edit my response as predictive text had used a few words that made my reply gibberish in places. Maybe that's what happened for the author??? wink

Self-indulgent ramble. Seems a great car though.
