Good God, what do folks do who aren’t star mechanics with facilities? What’s a main dealer going to charge for that little lot?!

It has been hell if I'm honest. There is literally no information online on how to do the jobs, I bought a CD from ebay and it wasn't any use either but we had no option other than to get stuck in.

Main dealer washed their hands of it even tho we have full main dealer service history - I couldn't be arsed fighting with them either as the wife needs a vehicle for ferrying the 2 girls about - I gave her a vehicle from the engineering company I run to use but it has not been ideal as I have been using a van instead for work which hasn't been ideal.

What has been the hardest job was the changing of the timing chains then the engine was still rattling - Took the rocker cover off and nothing was broke.

We just got stuck in and went at it. Made a few mistakes but figured it out along the way. They are horrible vehicles to work on.

The new engine sounds lovely.

I don't want to do any work on it again, even a puncture and I will push it into the harbour haha.

I got a rough quote from them and they wanted.

£3200 in labour for inspection and removal

Engine price they couldn't give me as there wasn't a price on the system.

The main dealer up here is hellish - I had issues with them when the wifes Range Rover had problems when it had warranty.

Thanks all, I don't recommend it but I now feel I have the skills of a Jaguar Mastertech after this.

I'm a clean freak so it was upsetting me all the ste that was lying around. The chap who has the ramp doesn't like chucking anything out.

The one thing I will say about Jaguar is that not one bolt was seized or broken or even rounded during this operation.

At least they got something right on these awful engines.

That's about the only thing to be honest.

I will keep the old engine for spares as the turbo etc is good on it.

FML well done OP. Between you and Escy on the other F Pace thread you must be the experts in these.

The turbos give trouble as well. I really don’t know how they get away with these engines, I’ve seen low mileage engines under two years old let go.

Aye this one had a turbo under warranty so it only has 10k on it or there abouts.

The new engine has a new turbo on it by the looks of things aswell.

Crikey. This is the same engine as in the Disco Sport I think. Dad has one, the engine has been out twice to sort the balancer shaft issue. Why they couldn’t fix it first time is beyond me (under warranty thankfully). Jokers.

Yep so I believe it's in the - Evoque, F pace, XF, Disco Sport and Velar.

The issues we have had with it are mental. But I am hoping we are over it for a little bit.

I can’t believe anyone after reading Escy’s thread or this one, and taking onboard the widespread reporting of the fragility of this engine, would opt to keep the vehicle. If it was running, I’d be selling.

We are going to sell it, we just need a couple of weeks of normality as I need my vehicle back from her.

Not sure what the plan is - electric bikes maybe more reliable.

Only saving grace is I now have a spare engine. I have a friend who has the exact same engine and have had it since new and it's on 122k with ZERO issues.

I'm a dealer and we wont touch anything with this engine now regardless of how cheap it is or how little miles its done and I know of quite a few other dealers doing the same. Our external warranty company also now have a different price for any JLR product and my rep said they are tying to price themselves out of it as they don't want the business.

That totally makes sense.

Arnold Clark are offering a good price for it along with motor range as well.

So in a few weeks after our holiday etc we will offload.
