I really like this but it is too expensive when you can have a real classic 60s Mustang for the same money. Or a nearly new one for that matter.
In my opinion of course!

The capri is peak dad car for people in their 30s. Something fathers remember fondly from their "wild" days in the 70s and 80s. The car is long gone but Dire Straits and AC/DC still play.

I like them, wouldn't buy but would definitely take this over the equivalent 1980 v8 mustang.

An American friend couldn't believe this was a ford product: it has some American influenece but is quite German too.

I spoke to the seller about another car, but this thing has him grinning ear to ear as a big noisy daft thing that gets plenty of love from the general public.

The 5.7 decal is very smart.

I’m sure a black front grill would look better.

‘5.7 injection’…I like it.
Even base spec Capris were in need of regular dabs of oppo…especially in the wet…whoever buys this had better be up to driving it.

When they resprayed this red, why did they use a different shade of red paint for the doors?
Colour reflecting differently off the wide rear arches

always liked the idea of a V8 Capri.

in fact long long time ago when I was almost 18, my first car could have been a Capri, I wanted one, why? well no internet that long ago and not many car books, but been in a capri from my friends uncle, he took us out sometimes and he was a racer... so we had fun when he was driving, looked sporty and so it begun... it was more what you knew.

so, me and my dad went to a Ford Capri for sale at some garage, it was a 1.6 GT or 2.0 S or whatever I forget, nice recaro's, so that one.

I climb in the car and wanted to look outside over the bonnet..bonnet...bonnet wow that was long, I could not see over, see, I was a late bloomer? I was only 1.65 or so at the time lol... so I did not felt save/good in the Capri, next was a Fiat X1/9 bertone 1.3 on the list and I fitted perfectly, the car drove very nice I guess way better sportier then the Capri I did not drove in, just sat in it to see what (see not much lol)

anyhow, that is my story about the Capri that I never owned.

Owned many fords though in my many many years driving cars, 13 in total included a siera cosworth, a fiesta xr2 and escort xr3i and some taunus in between cars, but non of those are recommendable for fun and driving-fun, but 5 fords are, all 5 Ford Escort RS2000 mk2 cars, had lots of fun in those, thats why I bought 5 times such ford and still sometimes think of buying another or a mk1 but then with 200+hp engine and modern suspension/brakes, although at the time no problem standard.

I felt the same, until I re-read the article and realised it’s not an injection nonobiggrin
Nor a 5.7 either apparently according to the article writer.

Always liked Capris, my pal had a 3.0S with Janspeed exhaust and headers. Sounded excellent so can only imagine how good this would be with a V8 yes
I remember pulling up at the lights next to a Capri 3.0S in my 2.9 Sierra XR4x4 once, and the 3.0S sounded lovely, whereas the V6 Cologne engine even with the twin K&N's and the full Magnex stainless exhaust that I put on it sounded so limp in comparison. I wanted an Essex V6 after that big time for sure! cool
Interesting, always wondered why the Essex V6 sounded better that the Cologne. Was the V or crankpin angle different perhaps.

My first 2 cars were Capris (or 'crapi' as my sister kept calling it), the first one a 1.6gl that I swap in a full 2.8injection interior from a wrecked car(after washing off the blood ) fitted a full XX pack ( I was 17, subtle wasn't a thing) along with a fake exhaust to pretend it wasn't a 1.6! little did I know that sometime in the future car companies would also be putting fake exhausts on to look more impressive!
Funny thing my sisters boyfriend pulled me over once letting me know my engine was about to blow because it was smoking from only 1 exhaust pipe....

second one I had that same rear spoiler people don't seem to like in the comments here, its an official ford part form the RS kit they did for the capri,
On mine I 'balanced it out' with the front RS spoiler that was also pretty large/deep, oh, it also wore the fake exhaust as it was also a 1.6 due to insurance costs

now, 35years on, I really quite fancy another capri, id prefer the special half leather interior and like this red car, would like the to add the x pack, the rear spoilers well as the front spoiler like my last capri.

Engine wise, I wonder if the capri would suit an electric conversion, as in 3l or 2.8 not not very quick by todays standard, that or maybe a coyote would fit, I live in New York now, so I like the US connection

I'm Ford through and through but I have never considered a Capri, I opted for a 2.0s Cortina then a 2.0 Ghia.

Capri's seemed to be driven by what I would call "wide boys" whereas I was a double for Paul Calf with my tipped hair, raggy tash and petrol Blue box jacket.

I think I understand the appeal of the Capri model, given when it was launched in the UK during the 1960’s there were very few competitors. I often read references about the Capri to the US Mustang but I’m not informed enough to know if a 1.3, 1.6 or even 2.0 L engine was offered in the Mustang.
Did the parent company think the UK market couldn’t handle more power and torque?
I had a half hearted look at buying a 2.8 injection which was only a couple of years old but was instantly put off when the drivers door dropped in my hand on opening. Not a patch on VW build quality in the day.
A guy at work needed to put a 3’x2’ paving stone in his boot during the winter to try to keep the wheels from sliding out.
Form over function I’d say.

I like the oem plus vibe with the decals, standard colour etc.

Not sure I could summon up enough cash and enthusiasm to pay for it but it is very nice.

Most likely because the 2.3 and 2.8 Cologne had siamese exhaust ports wheras the Essex had one port per cylinder as did the 2.9 Cologne.

There was a Ford sanctioned Capri V8 in period , but only in South Africa. It had a 5 litre Ford Windsor V8 and was called the Perana - possibly because the Piranha name was already owned by a third party…
Augustus Windsock said:
As for the Perana, Basil Green Motors, near Jo’burg where the company responsible
If I remember right, Basil Green never made a Capri Perana of this vintage, their official ones were all based on the Mk1 (I may be wrong of course)
This is a SA import that I encountered on a track day at Wakefield Park. It sounded amazing and was surprisingly quick.

The rear spoiler makes that on this Brave Pill look quite modest:
