My gripes about the rear arches aside, that thing is stunning.
The rear arches are an iconic Gandini design, so removing them would just be dim. They're also nothing to do with just the Diablo or even a Lamborghini, as they are present on other cars including many Maseratis.

Yep, and I'm still allowed to say that they are jarring to me, inc those on the Shamal. I don't care how iconic the design is, I don't like it smile

As for, as you put it "...nothing to do with just the Diablo" this is a thread about the Diablo, and hence my comments are in reference to the Diablo.

I absolutely love the look of the Audi Diablo. I fear it would be a disappointment to drive and own, but they really do the look the business - my mind's opinion of what "supercar" means.

Having owned both, would in the defence of the NSX I prefer the look without pop ups (although love the nostalgia). I also think the Diablo looks best with its Audi era re-design.

Chatted with the owner of a 6.0 out in the countryside. Air conditioned front luggage compartment, starting sounds like awakening a huge radial with a turbine, massive presence on the very-showy show field. Settled to an exotic idle and just trundled off. Cheese will still be chilled by the time owner got home. Bloody lovely.

Because a TV gameshow host can't drive properly, you now hate Lamborghini Diablos...?? rofl
Guess what? Your opinion stinks of st. rofl
I think the opinion was based on sound logic...why should one be put off a 90's supercar because a tv gameshow host is unable to safely drive one?

I have only ever seen one Diablo on the road. It was back in the early 90's parked outside Currys in an out of town retail park in Renfrew.
It was a red one and I was so amazed I dragged friends out of the shop to look at it. biggrin

I was a supercar snob as a schoolboy, y'know when everything is only theoretical and Ferrari trumped Lambo in every way. Now, lottery win, I'd have something like that any day of the week. It is a kids definition visually of a supercar. Mad, bad and dangerous to know.

Having been in the 6lt car and an 5.7 sv I would pick the early sv with pop up lights.

Ok having read the rest of the thread I see a few other people have commented in a similar vein , you don't like them fair enough but if you find them that irksome probably best to buy a different car

I'm one of the heretics that finds the rear arches to be quite jarring paperbag

Here's the funny thing though, I had both the Diablo and Countach as poster cars when I was a kid, and it wasn't until I was much older that the rear arch jumped out at me. It's now the first thing I notice when I see a side profile shot of a Diablo.

I'd still have the Diablo in a heartbeat though!
It’s a Marcello Gandini signature, designed to make the car look like it’s going fast when it’s standing still. Gandini did the original P132 Diablo prototype which looked pretty cool for 1985, Chrysler then changed his design heavily to become the Diablo we all know, which also looks great. He then sold his P132 design to Cizeta to make the V16T, which is a pretty cool car too, but the interesting thing was Lamborghini then re-hired Gandini to create the production version of the Diablo Roadster (the prototype was a one off barchetta with a tiny windscreen) and whilst he was at it, he quietly changed the Roadster in some degree back to what he had in mind in his original P132 design days … look at the square rear intakes on the Roadster and how entirely different they are to the angular ones on the Diablo coupe.
