As expected the comments are full of dinosaurs expecting this to have a V8, weigh 1500kg and cost £40k.

Welcome to 2023 lads.

Aren't these new C43s having some serious reliability issues?

I owned the previous model , an S205 C43 Estate with AMG perf. exhaust.
Despite being an AMG 'lite', one of the best things about the car was the wonderful, raw and characterful engine- the 3.0 TT V6. These had great response and sounded lovely .
That 3.0 TT V6 engine is definitely an engine that I'd really like to experience one day for sure(and the 4.0 TT V8 as well). AMG have made some great engines in the past I reckon for definite. smokin

Why does this have a 400bhp 2 litre 4 cylinder engine and is an AMG, but the coupe version will have a 380bhp 3 litre 6 cylinder engine which isn't an AMG?

This would be a great car with that 3 litre 6 cylinder they've decided only to offer in the coupe - not even the E Class in the UK will get it.

Mine was then quite heavily tuned, and with downpipes amongst other mods sounded absolutely savage with the valves open-

It had the same fixed AWD system 31;69, and with greater torque than this you could get some nice 4wd drifts going on easily.
The 2.0 M139 engine, despite being powerful for its size, its completely lacking in character , sound and is just not refined enough for a car of this class or price either. Also when we look at the weight, despite having a much smaller engine, this saloon is much heavier than my V6 estate- which i weighed at 1762 KG empty, which obviously defeats the main purpose of having a lighter smaller engine.
The M276 V6 was a very stout engine as well, mine had 15,000 miles tuned, many drag strup runs and several track days, beaten hard and the drivetrain never had an issue.
HOWEVER with these new C43s there are many back at the dealer battery / drivetrain issues they cant fix, and the same engines in the A45 have problems with heat soak > limp mode when being used hard on a hot day.

Are C43s designed for numerous drag strip runs and track days? Isn't it a bit like saying pole-dancing is unadvisable because your wheelchair-bound 82yr old aunt slipped and cracked her bifocal glasses when trying it?

Invariably driven badly and aggressively as if the driver has a point to prove and chip on shoulder. Same as s cars, in particular and to a lesser extent the not quite M beeemers.

From what I gather they are out there in Europe, and struggling to sell.

Not a fan of the front bumper design. Looks good apart from that. Saloons and silver wheels ftw thumbup

Shame the C never got the straight 6 as seen in the E53 though

You'll be buying one then assuming you've got not no issues with it whatsoever?

It’s not really an AMG is it? No character, no noise, no feeling of driving an overengined hot rod.
But buyers will lap it up because of the badge. Meh.
I doubt it, C63 with smaller engine has flopped.

Feels a bit of a 7 out of 10 car to me? Actually does everything you need pretty well, just isn’t something you really desire. But then I suppose you could argue a regular C200 does mostly the same thing in the real world with traffic and crappy roads and costs a lot less.

You could be spot on at 7/10.
At this stage of the game with all the downsizing, a 200 or 300/300e might be a far better choice. Considering engine size and number of cylinders was always the main difforencer and justifier for higher purchase prices, the 300e (25k less?) seems more appealing to me on paper anyway. And if that means doing without 4wd and 4ws I don't think it's a great loss.

Time was when AMG meant something.
Then along came AMG line.....meant less and now these halfway house AMG's blur the line even further.
Merc are not alone, BMW and Audi do it with M140i etc and Audi with S line.

Not always for the better either for me. I guess that I should just roll with it though really.

Cars(especially engines) seem to be the enemy nowadays for sure. I'm not all that keen on the idea of a bus/train or a pushbike in fairness though! hehe

I'm not really sure what to think of this.

A powerful 4-pot just seems a million miles removed from the whole character of today's large and refined C-Class. It's all a bit naff and non-premium.

Huh? They launched it with the 4apot and hybrid and there have been road tests…

No as far as M-B are concerned. Much cheaper using the same basic engine in all veriants.
It could be considered taking advantage of the consumer on so-called environmental grounds...
Hopefully they learn from the reported sales flop of the C63/S.
