The money wasted on inappropriate wheels and spoiler should have been spent on converting the engine to xjr6 supercharged spec imo.
My thoughts exactly. Still, think it wasn't a well planned 'project'. Possibly too much spent on the interior or just maybe it was a poor car to start with.
Staying positive I do like the colour but always apprehensive about colour changes.

My dad has owned quite a few XJS's over the years including a 1992 4.0 with a manual box. I came close to buying that one off him as it was a fantastic package in my opinion, feeling nippier, more nimble and more fun to drive than any of the previous V12's he'd owned. Jury is out for me on what's been done to this one though.

Like what they've done to this. Still keeping the engine stock is no bad thing really. Think someones got the figures wrong on the 80mm lower ride height though. Over 3 inch drop!! do me a favour what was it before a Dakar special.
Hmm, I'm in two minds; 235/60R15 would be very close to (at a guess) 275/45R18s. Looking at old pictures of original spec XJSs, they have c.2" space at the top of the arch, plus this car's wheels are well into the arch, so the drop isn't less than 2".

Anyway, a nice thing. I'd echo half the comments on here - wheels and spoiler need done and power would be nice, but I can't see anyone driving it as a backroad/sliproad hero, so extra power is strictly optional.

Love the XJS - I'm biased but I think it's getting better and better with age.
This one looks great, particularly the interior. Probably not even that bad value considering the restoration.

It isn't 80mm lower, it looks about the same ride height as my V12. The Eibach springs don't drop that much (maybe on some other/older XJ platform but not the XJS) & there's basically 0 height adjustment on the front, aside from a few spacers that are only really used to tune it higher/level if you have fixed spring perch dampers on the rear.

scratchchin looks a lot lower than standard to me

Probably a controversial opinion, but I think the XJS is a nicer looking car. I also think it’s much better looking than the E-Type boxedin

early examples in white pre HE with original wheels , yes would have one over a DB7 ,

better looking than a series 3 E type? , perhaps ,by that stage modernity had murdered a master piece. ! but not better looking than a series 1 E type for sure

I don't hate it, but I don't love it. Feel like if the wheels were one colour that would help quite a bit.

In all honesty, the thing I notice most and I don't like on these is, the twin headlights.

I think that looks great & twin headlights suit it IMO; although I generally think twins look good on later XJS', especially the coupes.

Looks nice.

But I would raise it 50mm, and put on some more traditional wheels with higher-sidewall tyres.

Then it would be done smile

I think I would prefer this compared to the lower-end of the DB7 market. Apart from the wheels of course...

That does indeed look very nice, but needs the wheels changing to something more period and OEM (TWR perhaps).

And, with the work done, most certainly a manual 'box and more power is required.

Hello chaps,

Well, I'm Ed at Shmoo Automotive Ltd, and by sheer coincidence, I took a deposit on the car on Saturday evening. Chap came to view it today at 2pm and it's all wrapped up and SOLD. As I said in the advert, I knew it would split opinions, and looking at all the comments here I would say I was correct. smile

Regarding the ride height, I can't say for certain about the 80mm, it's just something in the paperwork with the car. The arches had to be altered and different hubs fitted to allow the larger wheels and rubber to be accommodated. But, I can tell you it's rather low, as you'll see from some photos attached showing it at a show in late August. But it goes over sleeping policeman ok if you take your time.

If you scroll down to the videos on my website you'll see a 'video short' where I'm driving it, and you can hear the exhaust note, which is just right. It also handles nicely, with no crashing over potholes and not a stiff ride, and down a country lane it's a lot more fun compared to a standard XJS.

Yes, more power is always nice, but it has enough, and why would you want to blast past when you can burble past and give everyone time to take it in? smile

Generally, I'd say 75% of people love it, which is good enough for me, but like I said, I always knew it would create some fluster in the forums, and it has.

Best,

Ed

Am I right in saying that the single lens headlights are now at unicorn poo levels of availability? That may be a contributing factor for the twin conversion.

Not for me, I’ve never understood the appeal of any series of E-Type. Proportions are awful to my eyes, and the XJ-S/XJS seems to mask that much better

I think it looks fantastic as is. With the big wheels and low ride height it reminds of the 80s Group A race cars. I prefer the US headlights too.

Good luck to the new owner. smile
