Why do people keep saying such nonsense about recirculating joint steering?

Exactly.

Just wait until people realise they’ve been hoodwinked about the innate superiority of leaf springs and the separate chassis - before you know it, the next S-Class will have live axles and rod-operated drums.

The advert is a bit misleading. It’s £46,950 plus VAT, £56,340 if you aren’t VAT registered. It should clearly show this on the advert.
The 'cheapest' one on PH advertised at £42k turns out to be £44.5k plus VAT (£53.4k) when you read the ad.
The ASA clearly states the following:

Your adverts must describe the actual cost accurately, including any ongoing or associated costs (like subscription fees) and taxes (such as VAT).

Advert needs to be updated. It’s misleading.

But the cheapest available is a shade over £46k including VAT it's just not on PH

A relative has bought one and I sat in it at Christmas. He does outdoor work so it will see more than the school run. I was never a fan of these but after seeing it in the flesh it's a proper tool and I was impressed.

Main thing I didn't like though was the weird seating position. It may sound odd give the size of the thing but there's only one place you can put your left foot and you can't stretch your leg out.

I drove one on the offload days being offered. Agree with the above, it’s a proper thing and feels built like a commercial vehicle not a domestic one. Underside looks like a 200 series LC V8.

Gone are the Union flags, the factory in Wales, still disused, the owner shuffled off to tax exile in Monaco and the project was rescued by the Europeans.
It simply looks like a 110 modded at weekends, by an enthusiast.
A dead-end vehicle for a dead-end idea.
6.30 of depreciation for every mile driven.

I just don't get it. There's two people I currently know now who a have bought these, both I understand as their only transport. If a 4x4 work horse is really required, why not get a Land Cruiser (as an example: 5DR, 5 seat, auto @ £46k) and a car. Yep sure, there's an extra cost running two vehicles but it seems to me it's well worth it.
I can't help thinking it's just a trendy vehicle to own by some, other than anything else.

You’ve obviously not driven one yet have you ?
It’s the sort of thing a footballer would buy to go shooting in (because he saw one on Instagram) and then never drive it again once he realised how awful it was to drive .

Whatever your view on the builder of this vehicle (someone that should be held accountable for lies on Brexit), this is still a complete dogs dinner even if it was built in Britain by a team of Union Jack waving UKIP members. Rarely has a car had such universal bad reviews.
What should he be held accountable for? He is a private citizen, not a politician.

Maybe they didn't want a Land Cruiser? People like different things. I wouldn't buy a Peugeot 308 over a VW Golf, but some people would. Choice and variety are good things.

This man funded Brexit, and was one of the contributors to those that did lie, leaving the country in a worse state. Only to then leave us in the sorry mess and bugger off back to his tax exile and his vanity project.

I've had mine for about 9 months or so. It's the petrol version and the passenger rather than the commercial variant in the ad. My impressions are mixed.

The good: my young children think it's the greatest thing since unlimited chocolate buttons for breakfast. I say that because it does appeal to the inner 7 year old that still lurks in every middle-aged man. All those toggle switches up above, the ladder, the rugged looks etc. It does make me smile every time I drive it and that I suppose is something few vehicles do nowadays. The driving position and visibility are fantastic, the tech all works, it's well put together (apart from the rather pointless foldable little table that I optioned inside the rear door which constantly rattles, though an easy fix is a little bit of cardboard).

The bad: getting it into the serious off-road modes is a ridiculous pain in the arse. So unnecessarily complicated and the secondary gear stick so stiff and difficult to engage that it renders the very thing it does better than most vehicles virtually unusable. It's more than capable in most off-road situations without all the fannying about, but for the serious stuff you do need to go through this ludicrous process and it's very poorly designed in my opinion. The other issue, which one hopes will be rectified with time, is the very sparse dealer and servicing network. Definitely something to consider. The London dealer I bought it from is bloody miles from my place and now my Grenadier is up north at our place in the Peak District, I'll have to find another one up there.

Overall, I'm glad I have it and won't be selling any time soon. Which is most unlike me. But it certainly isn't quite what it could/should have been.

So he can't be held to account for anything then. Thanks for clarifying.
