2001. September, when 51 was issued. 1999 V prefix from August 1st.
Plates were changed to 6 month intervals in 1999, "T" came out in March, breaking the traditional annual plate change.
There was one year before that when plates didn't last 12 months.

My first car had an E suffix from 1967 that only lasted from 1 January to 31 July when the suffix change got moved to August for F plates.

Still haven't seen a 24 plate yet but I'm not that bothered now anyway.

Weirdly I’ve seen absolutely loads of 73 plates around lately, big explosion of brightly coloured MGs too.

I’m sure there’s many a conspiracy as to why this might be the case!

Saw my first 24 plate last night, Ford Ranger Raptor. Subtle, it was not.

Only saw my first 24 reg car a couple days ago (though did see a 24 reg bin lorry on about March 3rd!).

It wasn't anything exciting, one of those bulbous small Mercedes crossover things (GLA?) In silver. What was interesting though was just how filthy it was, would have fitted in well on the dirty winter cars photo thread!

I'm suspecting it was a company car rather than someones pride and joy, and probably has done a few thousand miles on muddy country roads already.....

Last week on the M74 heading to Glasgow, a 24 plate mercedes went past me at about 90 mph, it had trade plates in the back window, whoever was getting that car as a brand new vehicle clearly will never know what the dealership did before handing it over. It may well have been on a final test but the driver was certainly booting it and still accelerating into the distance!!
