RE: Dacia Spring confirmed as £15k EV in UK
Discussion
I applaud the effort and it's nice to see a very reasonable priced EV.
Don't think it's powerful enough in all honesty aside from for little old ladies who won't drive it more than 2 miles in a go, which also makes the range thing OK.
Like with a few other EVs, we're not quite there but another step in the right direction.

I have absolutely no need for one but strangely want one to stick on the drive for the quick trips. Perfect for taking the dog to the park /the school run, if I still had young children.
A real antidote for the bloated over specced gadget laden cars we all drive around in. Who cares what's it's like on the motorway, it'd never see one.
The Mrs could use it more but she's so anti EV she'd refuse to use it until her car was out of petrol. She'd then run this one right down so when I could finally have a go the battery would be flat because the simple act of plugging it in would in her mind be acceptance.
A big gas gussling interesting V8 and one of these. Perfect combo.

100 miles of range will be plenty for this type of city car. The 0-62 time might be slow but what is the 0-20 or 0-30 time?
Anyone running 2+ cars should consider it for a local hack. On the right charge at home tariff it will run for free if done right, which would help to mitigate any PCP costs. This could indeed be a very low cost car to run.
Eg: I have an i3s which does about 140 miles on a charge the way I drive it. With a bit of thought, I can get paid to drive it. January I did 615 miles, yet because of the tariff offset, my electricity bill was £21 less than Jan 23 once everything was factored in, or I was paid 3.4ppm. I would expect to pay £140 for the equivalent dino juice. (Regards depreciation, I bought my £40k car of £20K at 20 months old, so a business owner has taken care of that of me .
This car could be run the same way, with the first £160 pm PCP taken care of. Very cheap motoring indeed.

Well done Dacia. They could easily have stuck it up at 20k and taken a £5k profit, but they chose not to. i'm very impressed and reaffirms my love of the brand.
to release at that price is so good, these will be so useful for so many people, as town cars, station cars. I really think my parnts should be looking at one of these, my mum for example rarely goes further than 5 miles, but she does go out most days in the car. Something safe, new and cheap to run makes a lot of sense for them. Then theres the ease of driving an electric car.
Well it seems that they are already taking a 5k+ profit, as the original car (Dongfeng EV EX1 Pro) costs less than GBP 7k in China...to release at that price is so good, these will be so useful for so many people, as town cars, station cars. I absolutely don't need one but I quite fancy one if they're cheap enough on the monthlies
Perfect for small local pottering about
Same here.Perfect for small local pottering about
Would make a perfect car for everyday duties and just something to jump in to without worrying about where is ok to park it etc.
Any PCP cost would likely be offset by the fuel saving in our other cars, plus give a degree of practicality that we're a lacking at the minute (2 door coupe, 2 seater convertible).
The reason I'm thinking of one of these is:
Currently run a shed peugeot 106 and have done for 4 years. I love the thing to be honest, it's about the cheapest form of motoring going (and it only has 59bhp, although I've never found this to be a problem!).
However, it's best days are certainly behind it. It leaks like a sieve despite best efforts to remedy that.
My driving during the week, well, I do the school run, which is around 6 miles. If I'm at work (I work part time) that's another 3.3 miles, then back the school and back home so 20 miles a day, there or there abouts.
Every other weekend, I go and see a relative. It's an 84 mile round trip. 60 miles of that is m6/m5. The other 24 miles are A roads. The Spring in theory should be able to do that distance, although we do have another family ICE car I can use.
I'm also disabled (cerebral palsy). Driving around a non PAS, heavy clutch car around a town with horrendous traffic is getting a bit tiresome. I'm liking the idea of no gears and a very easy drive.
I probably spend £120 a month on fuel, £13 on car tax, and £12 a month on insurance, so if it came in around £150 a month on pcp, I'd be in something newer, less likely to breakdown and something much easier to drive, so it's very tempting.

This looks great for its intended use. I’ve got a little Suzuki Alto as a cheap runabout for the Mrs but I often use it over my Octavia Vrs as it’s so much fun using most of the performance all the time. The power figure for the spring sounds low but it will probably feel quite punchy as it’ll be full torque from zero rpm whereas my little Suzuki needs about 4000rpm to deliver 20nm less torque. And it’s got a normal key and normal handbrake! Might have to arrange a test drive.
I bought one for my son, the most expensive car I've ever insured ! I was surprised that they do 60 mph in second gear and feel quicker than the figures suggest. Not a single oil leak either !It is great fun though and I love the thrum of the 3 cylinder. I fitted him an Apple Carplay stereo last weekend and got top Dad points.

Just me that read the above, then heard in their head…
“Uphill runs become power-sappingly mundane, while overtaking National Express coaches can become a long, drawn-out affair." Not my words, Carol, the words of Top Gear magazine.
Love it.........May be he could buy one for Fernando ;-)“Uphill runs become power-sappingly mundane, while overtaking National Express coaches can become a long, drawn-out affair." Not my words, Carol, the words of Top Gear magazine.
This would actually work quite well for the majority of my driving, in the more powerful guide its probably very similar to the original Zoe I had, which I got on well with.
I don't especially "need" it - an advantage of a low annual mileage is I can basically drive whatever takes my fancy and sod the running costs - but in terms of hassle-free daily, this makes quite a bit of sense.

I suspect (but don't know) that Dacia are looking at a max of £1k profit on these cars

Can't help but think it's missing the mark just a smidge. A little more power and range would have been nice, it could even tempt some ICE owners away from some older PCP deals on a 3/4 year old Focus/Astra/A3 type car into something like this.
The range and power are spot on for what the intended use of the car is. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
