RE: Maserati reveals 180mph GranCabrio Folgore

I'm in the minority then as I think the colour is great, really pleased to see a manufacturer shoot their car in a bold colour and not in the dark for once! Not sure about the black wheels but that aside, I think it looks lovely.
Not sure I get the electric/cabrio thing though, I can't imagine putting the roof down has the same purpose when you don't have an Italian V8 to listen to but hey, they sold an Evoque convertible so it's not always about the noise I guess

I really lije the colour, but woukd prefer it a bit more pink. And I love the Evoque cabrio!! The sound of the engine in a cabrio is the furthest thing from my mind, its about experiencing the open air, the space, the vivid colours, whatever, sound doesn't come into it for me, but then, I've akways just cruised around in the convertibles I've owned. A silent AC Cobra woukd be somewhat missing the point, it is a visceral all encompassing experience, but this is surely a civilised gt car, the more refined the betterNot sure I get the electric/cabrio thing though, I can't imagine putting the roof down has the same purpose when you don't have an Italian V8 to listen to but hey, they sold an Evoque convertible so it's not always about the noise I guess
"It's too heavy." Really? It's going to violently understeer across the pavement and into Hermès, is it?
Silent drop-top wafty loveliness. Gorgeous thing.
And EV is perfect for the application. You might like the idea of sounding like a straight-piped apocalypse at 30kph, but your mistress in Monaco probably wants to be able to converse with her style adviser without shouting.
If you don't think they know their market, look at the colour of it. Mr Wallet is driving, but if that colour wasn't carefully chosen to appeal to his "masseuse", I'll eat my fedora. Cheap enough to fit on one of the non-titanium credit cards too, so the wife will never notice.
I mean, who the hell cares if a bunch of smelly, terminally single IT professionals on a declining 20th century TVR forum thinks it might be dynamically compromised? Everything is compromised. Now if you'll excuse me, I just noticed my family SUV shipped without straight-cut gears, so I'm off to address that immediately!!

Wind noise is always a problem with convertibles at speed. This will be no difference. I still prefer the relative effortless calm of driving an EV with no synthetic engine sound being played through the speakers that many modern cars have.
Tyre engineering is now an interesting topic. How to reduce particulates and also decrease road noise.
Sadly you will have to tolerate synthetic engine noise as you cruise through town, as EU regulations mandate it at low speed for EVs.Tyre engineering is now an interesting topic. How to reduce particulates and also decrease road noise.

Meh, it’s general opinion on EVs for me. No one needs a pick up or saloon that fast and the obsession with drag race numbers is tedious. I’d rather see higher ranges than higher top speeds personally.
The point is you’re getting that additional performance for free, why artificially limit it when you’d get exactly the same effect by just not pushing the accelerator as hard? It’s not like ICE where there’s a big efficiency penalty for running a V12 over a V8. Battery size is the key driver for range in terms of the drivetrain, a larger battery can also supply a greater current therefore range and max power are intrinsically linked.

It’s just my opinion mate, I don’t see the point of a 3 sec 4 seat convertible.
You can always put a brick under the throttle pedal if you want it to be slower...ETA: In fact being a modern car, it probably has "drive modes" which makes it slower for those that want them.

I feel some companies will die in this new world.
Maserati, Jaguar, Alfa...
Will they though, Maserati and Alfa are just brands of the Stellantis group, Maserati sprinkles some glamour on the business and has always limped along no matter who owned it, Alfa sell a pitiful amount of cars in the UK (1500) but manage 68,000 world wide in 2023 growing 30% and as they just rebadge group platforms the cost base is diluted. Was the previous ICE GranCabrio the last word in dynamism? Was it bought by people who want to throw it into the corner and shimmy out the other side?
I sometimes wonder on Pistonheads if everyone wakes up in the morning with a mental image of the Boxster or the Elise in their mind, and anything which falls short of it is criticised for "not being good dynamically"..
..when in the real world people buy cars for all manner of reasons other than dynamics.
I think anyone who is buying this, wants to look (very) good while also feeling very good about their eco-choice.
It's a very justifiable poseurs car. It is the kind of thing you buy because you know it is a beautiful object, and you are a bit seduced by whatever remains of the romance of the badge. You want something which doesn't exist in any other manufacturer's portfolio.
I think the price is steep, I fear the depreciation, and of course the colour is silly, but how many other launch cars are in something lurid that we'd never buy?
Good on Maserati for being the first to make something which isn't a bloated, ugly, space-age looking SUV, but instead something I can look at and say "I'd have that, no matter what the powertrain".
Nail on head, I welcome the variety but not the silly price, hopefully different choices will eventually flow down to where one day I may be able to afford an equivalent. 5 minutes of charging time to put 15 miles of charge into the batteries?
Ugh...that's grindingly horrible when you can put 500-600 miles in a fuel tank in that time.
I'm not anti-EV, but I'm always amused by people pretending the above isn't a problem....
En route to Monaco a quick sozzidge roll stop at Greggs on the M40 is a tradition of mine... why not combine the snack stop with parking up next to Doris in her Zoe and Dave who's shouting at the charger company on his phone because he can't unplug his E Tron?Ugh...that's grindingly horrible when you can put 500-600 miles in a fuel tank in that time.
