A friend has one of these on Vossen wheels. The amount of attention it gets is amazing for an estate.

Before buying any modern big audi you should Google:
“Audi, belt driven 47v starter generator, 48v system failure, cost to replace”

Great car while under comprehensive manufacturer warranty. Make sure you get a decent replacement hire car for the 3-4 weeks it will take your dealership to replace the 48v battery and starter generator when it fails - which it will…..
Jeez, this scares the crap out of me when it's in warranty let alone when it's out of warranty!

So a major fault that can and will happen at any time, limited warning, everything then shuts down rather dangerously and presents you with a massive bill. And Audi UK are doing very little about it although it's a class action in the US.

I'm considering one of these, but am erring towards an M5 Comp, purely as they don't look as shouty.

And don't need the estate boot.

Will need to test drive one.
M Division has an image problem.

The maintenance issues need to be viewed in context. Firstly the big problems were in early cars and have been mostly ironed out now. The C7 had similar with the oil strainers but a recall was issued and the problem fixed. Secondly, the 4.0 V8 is the strongest part of the package and has been used across the VW group for years. Lastly, its a 130k car that does 0-60 in a little over 3 seconds. An A6 TDI might look similar but they're never going to cost the same to run.

I like these but they’re almost comically large.

A massive yes from me. Especially the C7.

There is no better RS than the RS4 B7 but this is mm's behind, likely there are downsides and the service costs will get increasingly eyewatering but so difficult to ignore and just better everywhere than any of Audi's physics defying egobarges. It is a shame there is no manual or DSG option. For a grey car, it also looks pretty good. Off to see what MTM did with these.
