A 19 going on 20yo car that still looks modern to this day! (And by all accounts a nippy machine). Imagine how much money you could save or spend on a non car related experience if you bought as new/nearly new in pristine condition and regularly serviced/maintained the vehicle from thereon!

Granted circumstances change etc and of course we get bored far too easily which is the perfect excuse to upgrade/change.

Now's the time to drive the last of the analog babies: superb steering, decent road holding, pretty soundbyte and great to look at.
This all day long!

Anyone who's been on PH long enough to remember the runs we used to do on weekend mornings will have seen mine at some point and will have seen what it's capable of and would have definitely heard it. Yes the standard suspension/diff setup is rubbish but with a little effort those issues can be fixed.

The good old days of PH.....

I've just picked up a 130i as a cheapish hack.

May go "full Birds" with it.
I recommend swapping out the run flats too. Makes a massive difference to the handling.
The last owner binned them already. It's not sorted currently (running B12s and some Powerflex crap smile ).

It's already booked into Birds...

I've always loved smaller cars that got big engines fitted to them, so I love it!

I just wish it had been RWD like my BMW E46 325ti Compact. I should have replaced it with a 130i, but budget constraints meant I now have an E90 330i instead which isn't exactly small.

I've always really liked the 130i, and I really like the smaller car/bigger engine vibe with them.

Enjoy it. driving

Cheers, will do. I did think long and hard about a 147 GTA but in the end the 1er won.

Let's see how it goes. Will be used "as a car" i.e. not mollycoddled - left outside, parked anywhere and the crap kicked out of it whenever possible. smile

It's worth it just for the engine, not until you have driven a Busso engined Alfa is your experience of cars complete.
I've had Busso engined GTV, GT and 156 gta, the last supercharged to 340 bhp with a Rotrex supercharger that made it somewhat of a Q car.
Driving a GTV6 from Edinburgh to Mull and back in 1983 is still one of my all-time most memorable drives. Absolutely epic soundtrack.

Engine definitely makes up for it, however most owners (including me) have fitted a Q2 or Quaife and uprated suspension/coilovers which solves most of the early criticism of how it left the factory. A few other changes, e.g. exhaust to really make it sing, make it quite a fab car to drive

Yours looks brilliant!!!!... That red one (Advert)... not so much.... I also like the red one above with black wheels.

Is it just because the red one in the ad isn’t lowered?

Do it. My 130i LE on the B1 kit was awesome. It’s so much better than a B12 kit.

Yep. The B12 kit on the 130i is a bit cack IMO. It works very well on my E36 but is too stiff on the 1 Series. A few people I have spoken to suggest that the Birds kit "is similar/same as the B12 just more expensive, somehow suggesting they are in the know" which I think I will soon prove is a load of cobblers.

Been reading about Birds for decades - will spend some time with them and no doubt spend a load of money but it should be ace when completed.

They told me "we optimise our cars for the road...". Music to my ears. smile
