I've sat in one of these - luxurious they are not. Harry Metcalfe and Joe Achilles both commented on the material quality / plastics etc. and I have to agree it's really poor.

That's before we've even got to the looks - while this is mildly better than the saloon, it's still an absolute pig of a car. Such a shame the direction BMW design has gone recently.

Into not just the pricing as many have said it’s the range the infrastructure the weight…..I’ll stick with my M540i touring …….. Tows the wobble box with ease safely and does 26-28 to the gallon 35 on a run without…

What your point? The M5 Touring is going to be upwards of £140k

Maybe a lack of awareness of 2024 car prices !

BMW need to sort out their grills badly. The glossy black plastic looks so cheap and flimsy which is unforgivable on such an important part of the car from a design point of view. No way should it be anywhere near a £100k car.

Pretty much way more performance, spec and tech. That car would be £75k today with inflation.

Ugly, soulless and only a fool would pay above £100k as electric cars are becoming one of the biggest swindles of the 21st century.
If the deluded really want an EV they might as well go down the route of one of the Chinese knock-off brands that are available for a fraction of the price as after five years they will all be worth scrap money.
As for BMW, they have lost it now in a similar way to Mercedes. Ugly, ridiculously priced and with quality and engineering not noticeably any better than the mainstream brands.
If you want a good quality, economical wagon, buy a nice F10 530d and save yourself £90,000. You will also be reducing the carbon footprint by stopping another heavy and needlessly complex battery powered car being brought onto the planet. The kindest thing for the environment is to correctly maintain older cars to maximise their lifespan.

Here are the benefits of this i5 over the 540 you mentioned:
-> The i5 M60 has more power, so is quicker to 60mph by about one second.
-> It’s electric, so drives much smoother & quieter with instant power delivery and no lag.
-> On the pollution side - the car requires some more pollution at the point of building it, but then has zero emissions at the point of use.
-> Next gen tech - lager infotainment screen, more app functions (pre-heat/cool)

If you drove an i5 M60 and then went back to your fuel powered 540i you would absolutely know the difference smile

None of these ‘benefits’ are worth a 40k uplift.

Quicker to 60 by one second, more apps, oh goody.

One second 0-60 is underselling it massively - you really couldn't compare an M60 to a 540i in overall performance terms on the road - it'll be a completely, different level; just effortlessly quick. As someone said above an i5 40 would be a fairer comparison.

The changes from the G30 to the i5 are more than the changes from the F10 to the G30.
So using your methodology you should get an F10 car.

The i5 is using a complete new drivetrain!

Your £40k uplift is from ~2017, so you need to deduct inflation.
Higher powered cars are never ‘worth the money’.

The upcoming M5 Touring is likely starting from £140k. Is it worth 2x the price of an i5 40, with the same interior : no way.

You pay your money and take your choice smile

Nice colour but all the gloss black fake aggression and chav tints ruin the looks for me. Not a bit of chrome in sight. Well, least it’s not an iX thingy

277 ~ 310 miles range is not good when considering my just 12 month old 530d pops up a dash advice of 570+ range each time I fill it up. Last year I did a 3 week euro trip with 8 passes thrown in and covered 2495 miles, averaged 43.77 mpg with the fuel cost being £386 why would I want to change to EV? This M60 EV will no doubt be a great car but the price when options are ticked will ensure there is even better competition some of which is probably at less cost......Nah Thankyou I'll keep my diesel.
Good decision, couldn’t agree more beer
Comparing a 530d to an M60 - really clap In other news, a 520d will travel further than an M5 tongue out
Other cheaper I5’s with more range and less performance are available !

The diesel Vs EV range thing is boring now. Not many people NEED 500+ miles of range, and when they do usually several rest stops are required, which when you drive an EV is when you charge it.

::Edit:;
2500 miles in my BMW iX costs me less than £40

Edited by SDK on Saturday 25th May 09:53
So It costs you less than £40 to drive 2500 miles on the continent? Where are you charging it for so little?

I quite like the look of it, apart from all the contrasting black plastic parts. Reminds me of the days off poverty spec cars having non-body coloured black plastic.

“No one buying them?” - you’ve been watching too much anti-EV clickbait !
The SMMT ‘new registration’ data by fuel type tells a different story. Maybe look it up smile

Public charging is obviously going to cost more.
However, I don’t drive across continents and never use public chargers.
