I think they all take the piss out of each other, I certainly didn't think poor James was getting picked on tonight, and some of the put downs he gets to deliver are some of the best. Stop being big girls.

Here we go:

James May said:
Bill Bryson. Well, I think that man is a danger, frankly. If there is one thing I can't stand it's beardy, sanctimonious, patronising Americans in tartan trousers coming to England and trying to persuade us to turn into a museum. He wants the East End for the cheeky Cockney chaps pushing wheelbarrows full of eels and he wants northernists to be industrialists with big braces and blokes dying of consumption - Good morning Bill, I've got the consumption, it's tradition alright. I say Bill, if you're watching - OK, now you won't be watching because we're not talking about steam engines or longboats or bear-baiting - but IF you've happened to tune in by mistake: We're not interested in your views of stupid Americans who come over here with their big video cameras saying Gee, I love your history, it's just so old. SOD OFF!

Please provide the source of this allegation?

Great episode tonight. I like Hammond and May, but wish they played a bigger role in the show. JC is a schmuck who know's little about cars and his interviewing skills are subpar. Without all three of them though, the show wouldn't be as good.

Hello newbie. Any more pearls of utter toshboocks to impart?

Driving around the offices was very amusing!

As regards the insults I noticed them more this evening, but it is the presenters that make this show.

Hello Gizz and Yes I have more where that came from - I bet your neighbors love you.

I got a kick out of the tiny car through the BBC offices as well. I'd like to see the Stig in the sport version!

Thank you for the welcome. Unfortunately, there are "nice neighbors" in all forums nowadays. I don't mind.

Don't mind Gizmo...er..whatever his number is. Somebody didn't take account of Daylight Savings, and fed it after midnight. Or got it wet. Either way, either way, don't poke it with a stick - gassing is much more efficient.

JM flies at my local airfield - quiet bloke, generally with (very tidy) regular female company; a diligent, competent pilot who didn't fall into the standard post-PPL thing of buying a spamcan, but bought into something a bit more challenging....FWIW

There were rumours last year James was on about a £40k [?] salary, and the other two far far more. Anyone update this ?
I don't think you'll get anything other than rumors, like the one that Top Gear was held back for so long because May threatened to quit unless he got fair pay.

Anyway, I think pisstaking has become the theme of this series, like the theme of the last series was "expensive stunts" and the theme of every series before that was "cars".

I wasn't clear, for which I apologise. I also thought this week's TG was excellent, and enjoyed the Peel in the office hugely; myself and my flatmate were disappointed that Stig didn't get a go in the Sport one.

However I must disagree with your evaluation of Clarkson; he has after all been one of the country's leading motoring journalists for nigh on 20 years and is therefore considerably less of a 'schmuck' than you may think, regardless of his chosen persona. Moreover I like his interviewing style - infinitely preferable to that of Parkinson, Jonathan Ross, or most other sycophantic time-filling hosts whose jobs is effectively to allow the guests maximum time to promote themselves.

I don't really understand this sudden vitriol towards Clarkson. Perhaps people take him too seriously?

The only thing that bothers me (but not a great deal). Is that every one of his car reviews follows the basic mantra of start bad, finish good or start good, finish bad. I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it?
