Is that a GAZ 21 with an 850CSi engine and interior installed, or an 850CSi with a GAZ 21 shell cobbled on?
I don't know, but the interior looks decidedly BMW to me. Still, it's a beautiful car. Edited by kambites on Tuesday 9th December 07:46
One man's hobby is another man's mental illness.
There are lots of cars I hate that other people love.
BUT
The marina holds a particular facsination for me.
It was the first and only car I've been upside down in, the only car, where I've travelled to hospital with the driver and a pedestrian (who died 3 days later), the only car that had me in court as a witness (for both prosecution and defence), and the only car I'd want to burn on top gear
My mate hit a patch of oil at 40 mph in a 60 on a bend and ran over a pedestrian before we landed upside down. The car was a 1.3 auto coupe in beige.

I was disappointed with the limo. I mean, only capable of 99mph, I mean, it must have weighed in at around 3 tonnes going on Russian build qualities of that era (using a T72 Tank gearbox, and the engine from a troop carrier no doubt). Liked the push-button gear selection - very modern for it's time I'm sure.

Isn't it strange how people are outraged at stunts like this on TV, and yet in most action films you'll see cars being battered, sunk, destroyed, blown up, sawn in half etc.
Exactly, for the last 2 bond films they wrecked something like 8 Aston Martin DBS (whatever the plural is of that) and these people are complaining about some leyland peice of crap being destroyedKitchski said:
Whether the Marina is a ste car or not, or whether someone on that forum is a bit naive ain't the point for me....
It's an old, now rare car thats made it this far and it's a shame to se it wrecked by those bell ends. We have a credit crunch, while they spend tax payers money buying cars and then burning them on film.
It's not the last car that'll ever be wrecked and I'm just waiting for the day when I see a beloved BX get raped on there!! But the only way to look at it is that if you're sitting there seeing right through everything they're doing, be happy in the knowledge that they're just monkeys who've sold out and watered it down for a largely non-car fan based audience purely to get some fame....and you can see right through it all!
Not that anyone here is probably bothered! First car I ever went in was a Marina and I now have a strange urge to build a V8 powered version to go and crash on a track somewhere in, while attempting to stay on the black stuff!

I *want* to burn a Marina!
Oh and I want that Gaz 21!

I'd be extremely surprised if they would actually go to the effort of swapping interior trim over and so on - it's a £1k car at the most (a total irrelevance given the programme's budget), so not at all cost-effective to start welding or transferring parts.
The people moaning about the A610 had a bit more credibility.

I have a soft spot for the Marina as it was my first ever car and faults or not it'll always be special to me.
Don't see the point of taking the piss out of people passionate about any car, I thought that was the whole point of sites like this, and one of the good things about living in the country we do, let's face it it's one of the few rapidly disappearing freedoms we still have!

I don't like the needless destruction of stuff on Top Gear.
If you are a true "car lover" as the show's hosts would claim to be, surely you must have respect for all kinds of cars, whether they are fashionable or desirable or not?
I don't think much of Marinas but I wouldn't actively seek to destroy one. If it dies, let it die with nobility on the road.

The Marina was a point in our car history - OK, not a particularly good one, but it sold well at the time, and defined the BL family car in the 70's.
There were a lot of crap cars about at that time, and some very good ones too.
I personally have a soft spot for these as my father had one from 1976-81. He didn't learn his lesson though, because he then bought an Ital in 1981
This he had from new until he passed away in 1994. Ironically he had a heart attack behind the wheel of said Ital and died
I have to say that it was gut wrenching getting rid of the car afterwards as dad and I went all over the place in it, I learnt to drive in it. But my mother rightly didn't want to see it again.

Don't agree.Consider an analogy with food. I like my food, but that doesn't mean that I have to respect 5% meat/95% ash-and-aholes Tesco Value Discount sausages.
I like to drive, but going 150 miles in a hired Kia Rio nearly put paid to that! I had zero respect for the vehicle, because it was rubbish.
Bit that made me laugh most (paraphrased):

In other words "I only hate them because they don't like they same things that I do, if they smash up things I don't like then it doesn't matter"
What a bunch of retards
