RE: SOTW: Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6
Discussion
Great car, I'm on my third 156 now, the first, a Twin spark was good, nice 2.0 engine but troublesome and thirsty for oil. Then I moved onto a V6, similar to the advert, then a Sport Wagon caught my eye and I sold the saloon to a friend. The V6's, like any any car if cared for, are bullet proof and still hold their own against modern metal. A friends RX8 can't keep up and it's easily on par with Golf MK V Gti's for performance.
It's a great car! Funnily enough I put mine in the classifieds last night, but it will truly be missed. I know there's loads of horror stories with the reliability, but mine's been fine and the sound is amazing! The fuel consumption isn't the best, but it's soo worth getting the V6 version!

Nice! (All about the red though imo).
Are the logos on the seats OE or aftermarket?

Too right RX8 couldn't even begin to keep up with my V6 GTV especially as just had Q2 diff fitted. Engines are really great as long as you keep oil in them and change cambelt, tensioners, idlers and put metal impeller water pump. If I bought it I would change all of them to be safe.I bought a V6 of Ebay last year.
Its a very good car , engine just loves to be revved!
The interior is the best that you will get at the price and beats cars far more expensive than it (mines red).
Around town the fuel economy isnt great but I dont do a lot of miles so thats not a problem.
Ive had no electrical problems apart from a sticky CD changer!
I'd buy another Alfa (GTV V6) but im still on for trying other marques first as Ive not opwned a car from the same manufacturer twice yet.

My Dad used to have a 156 2.0 'Selespeed' from new. It was a lovely car in many ways, sounded quite good. However, we didn't manage to get through a service for less than £600 a time, with a list of stuff to change as long as your arm.
It did eventually eject 2nd gear, which was interesting. After fixing that months later, one morning Dad opened the garage to find it sat in a pool of it's own oil. It got traded in days later.

A friend of mine had one of these, as a company car around 2000ish, also a V6 and in black with red leather.
It was a charming thing; fairly quick, very comfortable and with a lovely feel to it. It was a pleasure to travel in, and similar to a Jag in this respect. Whereas a BMW is impressive rather than nice, the Alfa would make you smile while you grumble, if you see what I mean.
Unfortunately, it was unreliable, suffering both mechanical failure and constant niggling problems which were never resolved in the two years he owned it. The paint washed off the front, some of the electrics had a "smoulder" setting and he had so much trouble with the dash falling apart that he eventually abandoned the lower portions, storing them in the rear footwells.
The plastic may have been flimsy, but the Momo leather was glorious and lent the car the feel of an old Maserati.
All in the Alfa was an unreliable heap, but an unreliable heap that he loved and still remembers fondly.

Awful cars "shed" is the right word. I know three people who have owned them (well, 2 and a 159). Very unreliable, terrible dealer service. The 159 is actually detested, rather then hated.
I guess they made them look pretter then the normal saloons so you can look at them whilst broken down.
