RE: BBR Builds 398bhp Ford Focus RS
Discussion
Best part of 7k ? For 100 ponies ? :s you could buy an evo or a scooby or any sought after jap car for 7k with 400 bhp ! Don't get me wrong I love my fords and would love a rs but surely your dipping into the 30k mark with the car and upgrades . Sorry but I think I will miss this one out !
I test drove a standard one two weeks ago. The chassis is just crashy, totally unrefined. Sure there is a good amount of turn in but I would expect less body roll for such a firm set-up. I wasnt bowled over. It does appeal to the WRC geek in me though. But why would you spend circa £25k plus £7k to achieve an unusable 400hp when you could spend around £30k and get a used RS4 or INSERT ALTERNATIVE HERE?

You wouldn't need a warranty with a German car anyway.
I Imagine
LOL, you would be a fool to think so. From what the stats show, they are unreliable, especially when the warranty runs out.
If you want reliable, but Japanese!
Erm a focus RS won't cost you 30k and it is brand new where as all your suggestions are over 3 years old and out of warranty. HTH.A focus RS with 400 horsepower would.

As for the RS4 or Porsche 996, that is bull. We have been there so many times on PH about this, there are people who do NOT want a used car that someone has ragged, farted, shagged in etc. They prefer to mould the seat in themselves.
You always get the clown saying i can buy 10 M3's etc for the price of a buggati etc.or why would you want to buy a RS4 when you can buy a X amount of year old EVO and tune it up to the same power and speed and beat it; when would you guys ever learn.
As for the 400bhp RS, I think it is a bit too much power for road use, it would be good for the track days.

now there's a turn up for the booksyou recommending an RS4
I could have guessed the usual ill-informed comments and saved my time reading this I'll ignore the poor maths skills of many of the posters....
What still confuses me is how folks continue to bad mouth the RS when they've never driven one, or just have a downer on it to start with. It's very obvious that there's a lot of keyboard warriors who will never admit the car is actually very good.
Granted, I can't speak for this conversion, but I can wholeheartedly say the Mountune car is amazing. It's chassis and grip are fantastic, inspiring confidence to drive "spiritedly", yet safely. Do you get torque steer? Well, yes, but no where near as much as folk think / would have you believe. I've driven modern diesels with more torque steer than the MP350 has!
As for understeer, I've got 4 friends with Audi RS4s, try asking them about fast cornering turn in confidence.
In a similar vein, plenty of RWD cars have axle tramp and less positive turn in / traction through corners, which a well driven std RS would expose. To say that RWD can be forgiven these traits and then acceptably compensated for, without the same leeway being bestowed on a powerful FWD's characteristics is very narrow minded.
No car can be driven point-to-point with vigour, without allowances being made for it's configuration, so let’s not pretend a powerful FWD is some kind of fatally flawed, poor relation. The truth is all cars are flawed, the difference comes in which characteristics you prefer work around.

Years ago we owned a Mitsubishi Shogun with a BBR turbo conversion, the DJ Dave Lee Travis also owned one. He and we both used to strip the tread off the rear tyres under hard acceleration with monotonous and expensive regularity, an issue which was obviously never conceived but also never resolved.
