Some flakey paint on door handles, a common and cheap fix.

LPG lowered the value perhaps?

Otherwise seems fine (subject to viewing).

You've said no to the RX8 based on MPG figures...... and then started looking at a Monaro ???
My Camaro has the same engine/gearbox. The z28 is a bit lighter, but manages to average 24mpg and has seen 30.1mpg on the way to Devon camping last summer. Don't personal think an RX-8 will quite match those and they are down 100+ bhp too.
The Camaro has two overdrives in the manual and a high overdrive in auto form with a touring ratio back axle. Add to that it bubbles along at low rpm and high mpg is far more likely than revving a smaller capacity unit all the time. I get 24mpg from my blown manual Mustang and have had 35mpg on a longer casual motorway run though that can drop to about 26 cross-country. I even got 30 in gentle driving through the Brecon Beacons and while driving "economically", the speed is easy to maintain. I think wankels are also known for their thirst (16mpg in road tests IIRC).

I had a 4th gen Z28 LS1 auto as a daily and that did about 20 on a commute and up to 30 on a run (though in general that car just didn't do slow, more autobahn speeds).

I think people see V8 and assume thirst but the Americans are experts at getting great mpg to avoid CAFE gas guzzler taxes and any equivalent European V8s are thirstier (and most sixes too - for example in a US track test, a 405hp Z06 Corvette returned better mpg than a 350Z and a 911).

The other clincher for me is that the LS1 is an all-alloy pushrod V8 and the computer does all the work. All you have to do is change the oil and filters - and the coolant every 5 years. Nothing is complicated that you can't really do yourself (or a local garage couldn't do as it's all basic principles).

Bloody hell, it truly is a performance bargain!
£ for £ there is nothing that gives such good value with the steering wheel on the correct side of the car.

Dear Legend83,

I echo the above enthusiasm for the car, mine:

PH's own HSV & Monaro forum is the friendliest around.
Be prepared (unless you buy one pre-modded) for your credit card/wallet to become regularly lightersmile. (Especially) the earlier big boot CV8s can be substantially improved, there's a number of reputable fettlers, Monkfish being my pick.
Mine's got AP brakes, mix of VXR/Pedders/Monkfish bouncy bits, improved breathing of both induction and exhaust (courtesy of Monkfish & Wortec)...
...similar cars dyno at 420fwbhp (up from 330 or so).

When you get one with decent pipes and you plant it in your first tunnel biggrin

You might also consider a chugger for when 'tis salty/icy/low wallet and with their good value prices (a lot of vroom for your pound) I got a £2k Ka for that purpose,

regards,
Jet

As said on the HSV forum, there is a slightly leggy Monaro VXR on the classifieds at the moment for £8500.

Assuming its straight, its an absolute steal.

I think we all are.
The downside is that since buying my first V8 American car back in 1994, 80% of the cars I used to find interesting have now become boring.

It's a bit leggy though, isn't it. My 14 year-old Corrado only has 20k more miles.

I've often wondered about these. I assume they have some LS6 parts to make th power. As the early C5 zoo made 385hp and I know a number of Trans Am's and Camaro's 01/02 model years left the factory with some LS6 parts (block and heads sometimes).

Tubular headers, larger MAF and TB, different map on the ECU. iirc. Extra 50 HP.
