As for it not looking like a Porsche, you have to dig further into the archives and to me it looks quite a bit like the 904...

Some will no doubt say that the marketing department have done another disservice to heritage by drawing too many references to the legendary 917 but for the moment, I'm just going to ignore all of that and revel in all that is great about this new car!

The hybdrid-flywheel-flux-machinery sits at the passengers place - so is it finaly a single seater?! That would be horrible!

When I first saw the car looked Ferrari. But the tech is amazing, Porsche takes car tech into the future smile

It seems not to have door mirrors - is it using cameras instead becuse they are more aerodynamic?

Let's hope it's not a flux capacitor otherwise you'll only be able to drive it upto 87mph and then you're bye bye. hehe

Fingers crossed that Porsche race it.... I see no reason that it can't go up against Napolis P4/5 Competizione at the N24....and beat it.

I hope they do a Coupe road car version, it looks so much better than the already good looking Spyder.

Pic in Evo was in Gulf colours, but I also noted it had a LM24 "GT1" sticker on it. Whoops.

One word...STUNNING. Finally after 30 years, Porsche make a car that looks as good as it goes. A car which which may become the modern equivelent of the 80's 911 turbo pin up poster. If I was a youngster, I certainly wouldn't mind having a picture of this, up on my bedroom wall.

The hybrid drivetrain is also inspired, trust Porsche to take something which true PH'ers have been loath to embrace and turn it into something so cool and blow away the hybrid stigma in one fell swoop.

Also found this video is also on you tube. Sort of shows the evolution of the 911 GT3 R Racer and the Carrera GT into this bad boy. The clips of the 918 on track look like they are CGI but it still gives you an idea of what this thing will look like on the move.

Any guesses as to what that turbine thing is spinning on top of the engine?

It will be fantabulous if this starts winning stuff.

To bring new thinking and options to car powertrains that are there because they help you win rather than being forced to as part of the series rules, is when people really sit up and take a look, and want the tech in their road cars. Obviously there is a marketing reason for doing this, but if it's a proven winner, who cares.

I for one, want my next 911 to have a flux capacitor sitting in the middle of the rear bench seat smile

Oh, and on the looks.

YUM YUM YUM YUM. If I could draw, and I could design my perfect car and colour scheme this would be it (although the Stratos look-a-likey would also be up there)

Wow! Actually an attractive looking porker!

Guess they finally, FINALLY listen to input from the public about how funking ugly Porkers are!

With regret they appear to have simply copied a Pininfarina design.... do they have a new Chinese design engineer??
I may be biased, but I think they look ok already smile

Oh I agree they look OK but that's just it, OK doesn't really cut it in that price range. I am all for understated aggression and I still think from an engineering viewpoint Porsche are right at the top but they only seem to design a truely stunning car about once every decade. The rest are pretty meh looks wise, just nice to see them do something a bit different then the old 911 copy and paste routine now and then, all IMHO of course.

The technology has already been utilized on the track - Petit Le Mans 2010, so hardly earth-shattering news.

And Nurburgring 24h. But did anyone say it was earth-shattering? What is amazing about this car is the theoretical spec, what will be interesting is if can get close to that in real terms.

And Zhuhai in the ILMS.

The USP about the 918 RSR is of course the layout and power it will put out. No 911 GT3 racer will see which way it went...
