Looks good with the roof up and as technology marches on and EU safety regulations now dictate car design the days of lightweight sports GT's is well and truly over. Most buyers today want toys, electronics, safety devices and size...not point to point speed, steering feedback and a seat of your pants experience.
And yet the middle aged Jaguar XK with adaptive dynamics and E-diff (neither of which the BMW has) is 244kgs lighter. You read that right.

Hmm, it looks like the 6 series will remain as the oddball in the BMW range. I was never impressed with the old 6 series either.

Is the XK not a substantially smaller car? The 6-series almost has adult sized rear seats, the Jag's are a joke.

Yep, Jags rear seats are good for 4 year olds and amputees.

The Jag gets my vote! I would rather the infreqent rear passengers suffered a little discomfort than the pain I would feel if I had to look at this oversized ugly piece of Americanised sh!te on my driveway.

...... Im not a fan!!!

I would venture the weight difference is down to the use of aluminium rather than packaging of rear seats versus longer rear deck. Same class of car and if you want rear seats in this class get a granturismo, still a lot lighter than the BMW parrot face mark 2.

Metallic beige is really not a great colour. Obviously appealing to the older "country club" type of person who's most likely to purchase this car.

Is it? The GranTurismo coupe is 1900kg, near as damn it. I'd be surprised if the cabriolet is much under two tonnes.

ETA: Apparently Maserati claim 1980kg for the cab, so it's heavier than this.

People will look back on Bangle with fondness - that looks really ungainly to me. However, the worst feature to me is that dashboard, and more specifically the satnav/i.drive display. They should have just gone the whole hog and put a 42 inch plasma in there.

its not actually that heavy. The first 6 series (1975, so 36 years ago) was 1490kg, with a smidge under 200bhp. This has gained less than 1% in weight per year.

I agree. Both bland and ugly. The new 5 series is also bland but thankfully not ugly. Some elements of Bangle's designs seriously missed the mark but they were never bland. Perhaps it is a relection of the times that we live in where conformity is valued higher than individulaism and self expression. Just look how bland gents clothes are.

I think that's just what big GTs weigh, these days. The Jag is an exception not the norm.

Seems to be inspired by '90s Americana in the looks department.
Probably make a good comfortable and powerful mile muncher though. In a dark Germanic shade it'll just blend into the background.

Yep. New BMW's are terrible looking. What's worse is people seem to have no issue with this as the roads are clogged with them. The new 5 series is about 5 steps back from the E60. Horrible, banal looking things.

I have also never understood where the 6 series is suppose to stand in the range.

One of the very few cars on the road that even an attractive young lady doesn't look good in.

These things are heavy, ugly, too expensive and i have no idea why i like them so much!
