One of the 1254 pictures we took in two weeks on our Honeymoon. In the middle of Death Valley.

Did you stop/stay at stove pipes wells?
We stayed at Furnace Creek.

A bizarre experience, swimming in the very hot spring-fed pool as it goes dark. Then, showering and going for food and drink in the air-conditioned saloon. Excellent!

I also did the Death Valley Hertz thing last year! Sadly I declined the Corvette - I had enough trouble getting all her stuff in the Mustang frown

Essence of petrolheadism this. Great post, loved the photos and the feeling of the open road.

We did LA, Vegas, Yosemite, San fransisco, LA last year. I also couldn't get the wifes stuff in the Corvette (on paper, how big is the boot really?).
We did over 1800 miles in two weeks, I just wish they had V8 Mustangs available.

Good write up, I understand getting up stupid early because you're too excited to sleep!

Fantastic post mate thumbup
Looks like you had a great drive and I am insanely jealous of the early morning drive. Will be trying to do something similar at some point in the future smile

Hi matey. Long time

How long you in the states for? I'm out there with misses in sept as we are getting married in the grand canyon then doing the car thing aswell. I've had a quote of £390 for a cab Stang for 10 days. Anyone got any clues how much the vette is? I thinking around £1200+

If you around Polarbert might see ya as we will be in San Diego on our second to last day after doing Vegas/San fran/pch/la/everything in between lmao.

Your write up was amazing. Looked like an amazing time. Very jealous

Not as far as I'm aware. Double yellow lines I think equate to double white lines in England. Many people on these roads are usually courteous and pull over if they are holding you up.

I'd just like to return to this thread and say that I rented another Corvette recently. The ZHZ model has gone from San Diego Hertz and they now have ordinary 2012 models. No special exhaust. It makes a big difference. Still a hugely enjoyable car but without the exhaust it doesn't quite get the hairs standing.

I'm thinking of a renting a car for a day when I got to Vegas next year, I've got my eye on a Dodge Challenger but if I had a chance at a Corvette I might be tempted!

Reckon there is any chance of getting to rent such a car at 23? I've looked into booking with another (major) rental company and they are happy to let me rent a Dodge Challenger with a large engine, though not an RT. Hertz however, are offering Corvettes and Challenger RTs from £60 a day, will they retract this offer when they find out I'm not the "magic" 25 years old?

You might have trouble. I've been to the States and rented cars when I was under 25, and frankly didn't even bother looking at the good stuff because I think it would have just been too much hassle and money.

It is a very special thing that you can rent a $65,000 car from Hertz for $100 a day. Hope it always stays that way. biggrin

No, sorry, not having it.

American V8's are rubbish, don't handle as there are no corners over there.

Well, that's what a lot of people on here who've never driven one or been there say biggrin

Nice write up btw.

awesome writeup!

slightly unrelated but had a crap ford mercury (orion jobby) circa 94 and headed west out of las vegas showing a mad invention at the conf centre there with two mates in tow. We went past an advert for a wehouse, but we all claimed only to be only half interested, about 80 miles later we wished we had derouted. Life experience n all, young bucks etc. :P later got lost and drove off road and eventually straight on to a freeway, bizarre story etc, slept in the desert one night awesome. Love driving in the US, great scenery, great roadside grub, friendly folks. Also just watched the red baron film and his albatross DIIV painted in groovy colours / flying cicrucs, why dont people do that with cars, anyhoo looks great in yellow, nice read ta!
