4.5 making its full 420 would blow away 99% of cars on the road up to 150. Not a lot make that though frown. Mine made 354 on the rollers. The only car that ever kept up in a straight line was what I was told was a 500bhp scoobie.

At 150 it was a stable as could be. At 180+ it was lethal. I loved it though, an event every time I drove it. Used it in all weather as a daily driver too.

A good buddy of mine had a Cerbie with 411bhp - we went for a play and he handed my Impreza's turbo on a plate to it on the straights. Believe it was a 4.5 but still, christ they're quick cars.

Informative post as usual there from the 80s throwback. Iv seen enough cars at brunters and the pod to know it isnt usual to gap other super cars by a country mile unless you have say 600 + bhp, which of course this cebera didnt.

The fact remains that the Cerbera is an insanely quick car, especially given it's Blackpool roots. Even if it's performance claims are exaggerated, you can quite see why it put the wind up premium marque supercars, much in the way the Evo and Impreza arrived in the 90's to knock BMW and Mercedes off the popular 'super saloon' spot.

Bit of a late reply I'm afraid smile

But, at the last VMAX my 1996 4.2 recorded 168. Pretty sure it'll go past 170 if I can shed the passenger, a bit more fuel & get a dry run at the next. Looks like it's geared to do 180, but I reckon it'd need a minimum of 3 miles to get there smile

As for the video, the driver did the standing mile in 31.2 ? I had a go in the last but one Fighting Torque event & managed a 31.6 for the standing mile with a 163 terminal.

So pretty confident that 31.2 was genuine, as it would have been a decent driver & he wouldn't have been carrying a load of crud in the boot smile

thinking of a cerbie, never been in one before, aware of large running costs but may just get one for the summer due to low cost of buying one

an itch i need to scratch!!

just how fast is a 4.2 or 4.5 cerbie in a straight line? can you try and put it into perspective -eg times, comparable cars etc.

cheers
Comparable cars? Well you are looking at F430s and 911s for a 4.5 Cerbie. In essence, as has been said above, if you are in a straight line and you put your foot down, most other cars on the road will fall away behind you.

Just how fast? Well, I had a 4.0 Chimaera which wasn't slow, but when taken out in a Cerbie, it was a case of OMFG that was quick...

Can I just check, what cars have you run before which are rear wheel drive and shall we say a bit nippy? Just that there isn't a shortage of people who take their TVRs hedge trimming, which is not ideal, as they are not used to the raw power they deliver.

"A standard Lamborghini Diablo or 911 Turbo wouldn’t stand a chance. The Cerbera’s wallop is such that the only the McLaren F1, Jaguar XJ220, Bugatti EB110SS and Ferrari F40 might leave it behind."

Not slow then.

I've only been in one on a circuit, which always reduces the impression of speed, but they certainly don't hang around.

If I remember correctly, the Cerbera in that Clarkson vid was a 'Red Rose' model with supposedly 440bhp.
Would easily decimate that field of cars if so.

It was claimed in the vid as a 4.2. And timeline wise I beleive this was before the red rose or 4.4 variants where on sale. I think the vid was 1995/6. But might have been earlier.

What do you mean 80s throwback????

I was referring to Clarkson actually driving and routing for the Aston Martin.

The Red Rose was a variant of the 4.5. And I don't think the 4.5 was around when that video was made.

As I say, mine's close to those figures & it's 15 years old. Pretty sure a decent driver would do a repeat of that 31.2 in it.
