Rover SD1 VDP with MOT for £995! Seems pretty good value

Can that be right? If it's not a scam it seems a steal.

Brilliant - reminds me of Sutcliffe vs Goodwin challenges ( although they were half the price 25 years back )

Yes - there's the other half of the answer to "where did all the S3 Jags go". The rusty knackered ones went to the banger track, possibly via a Jaguar breakers who stripped the interior and other re-useable bits. The nice ones have been kept in garages and only used on high days and holidays, and are now selling for £15k plus.

Nobody is using an S3 Jag as a daily driver in 2021, so you don't see them regularly on the roads. But they're still out there, they're just being kept tucked away by their owners.
Thus makes me sad.
Happens to every car, right? Not just old Jags?

Ford Cortinas, Morris Minors, pre-BMW Minis - once they reach a certain age, they’re no longer used as daily drivers, and the rough ones get scrapped (or dismantled for parts) and the good ones kept preserved and used sparingly.
It happened to old Jags in disproportionate numbers. There was a time when so many XJ40s were being banger raced the numbers of them left dwindled so rapidly they went from reasonably common to there being very few left in only a handful of years. A great many of the non-mint XJ40s ended their days like this, the cars being so cheap many of them were raced with a decent length of MOT. The parts were sold by individuals on Ebay when they stripped the cars though the market was so over-supplied that the parts had little value.

When I was selling my last Volvo 940 (a 1998 model), most buyers wanted it for banger racing. I ended up breaking it for parts - for my current 940, rather than let it go for that..

The ad has gone. Link no longer works.

Searching for it I came across a 1995 40K mile Rover (Honda Accord) 620i in black with the twin exhaust of the more powerful 620Si on it for £3,500

My 18 year old 320d has 220k and less wheel wear than that. I wonder if it had a haircut before 2006

Aye, looking at that steering wheel it’s shinier than a mirror
