Just goes to show how many mugs there are out there. Without knowing the details I still bet they could have run your car for three years and then thrown it away for less outlay than the lease for 3 years.

Pathetic.
....well, i suppose whether or not it is pathetic depends largely on how near X is to your asking price / the realistic value of your car ?

I'm tasked with the job of selling the Father in Law's BMW (always get lumbered with family car related stuff)!

Anyway I've stuck it on the 'bay at what I think is an attractive price and getting nothing but knobby trade offers ranging from 7500 to 8500.

I know he'd accept 9500 and I think its pretty good VFM for a 1 owner family but no offers close to that.

Anyone any thoughts on this? I could do with getting it sorted as the wife keeps asking if it's sold!

Here's the advert

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152543992917?ssPageName=...
Well the Ebay advert expired and in summary it was a waste of time with nothing but chancers offering £8kish.

I put it on Autotrader for 9750 and the phone never stopped ringing. Buyer collects tomorrow for full asking price

Result!

And i was spot on....

Cheapest dealer cars start at £10,995 so you're not far away price wise starting @ £9,995 and realisically expecting £9,500.

Maybe not the best colour combo, but otherwise looks reasonable.

Have you tried autotrader?

the car is overpriced at 10k for a private sale, if you are getting offered £8000 then that sounds a fair price.

There are loads of 520d to chose from.
The arse has dropped out of diesel.
Most people at this level want finance and have a px.

= He will be lucky to get much more than £8k.

What was your advice? It was overpriced and accept £8K for it??

And then went on to call me an idiot?

"Buyer collects tomorrow" so we will see if full asking price is paid. But sounds like a result.

I'm putting the price up.
That way those who feel inclined to bid me in the bks might just come close.
I'm getting fussier now though and applying an 'attitude test' to potential buyers. Like rehoming a much loved pet.

Read my first post. I've been doing it successfully for years. Its just that lately 'buyers' seem to be gorging on idiot pills....

The first 'serious' person from the ebay advert was Chinese couple and their little girl - lovely family. After the greeting it went a bit weird.

Bloke approaches car and says they have seen a few and this one was the best by far. Wife immediately says 'too big'.

Bloke rattles something back at her in their native tongue and she scurries off to their car.

He opens the door and starts engine (from cold) and proceeds to rev the fk out of it. I tell him to stop and ask why he was doing that...

He replies 'check engine'

Then he says 'waz lass'

?

'Waz lass pry'?

I assumed he meant 'what's the last price/lowest price'

I told him 9500 and he said he'll call tomorrow. He obviously didn't.

Whole episode was done and dusted in less than 5 minutes.

Bizarre

I had a couple with baby turn up once. Wife rode the clutch the whole way round the block. He then jumped in, put it in third to do a stall test. Then he said 'well are seeing a older, higher mileage cheaper one tomorrow at a dealer we'll be in touch'. He kept ringing me the next day. I ignored the phone as I knew it'd be the low balling price offers that he eluded to throughout our conversation. Since that day I have been VERY funny about letting anyone 'test' drive any car I've had for sale.

Perhaps the way I worded the post was not clear. I am not fussed it did not sell on here. I clearly over priced it. I let an auction decide its value which was a good bit lower than I was expecting. That's market value, IMHO.

I have no issue with PH. I have sold everything from snotters to high end on PH no problem. If you price them right they will go. I have sold £50,000 cars on here in less than a day because they were priced right.

The ebay/autotrader divide is an interesting one and different places suit different cars.

You can never really tell but if that BMW had 169000 on the clock instead of 69000 and was a bit tatty but cheap ebay would probably been the place to sell it quickly. There is still something about ebay that it attracts the bargain hunter.

It does go back to what I said some pages back though. However awful a company Autotrader are, how ever over priced they are, sometimes you can have a car not selling and you pop it on there and suddenly the 'phone rings.

Been watching this thread with interest - getting a new lease car in about 3 weeks so have just put my 5 series on the trader with 20 pictures. I was going to go down the WBAC route but figured I'd lose hundreds on the odd dent and scratch. We'll see how I get on - it's got a LOT of service history so ideally this will appeal.
