Level playing field for all road users is the answer...
It broadly is that already, in proportion to the damage you can do. Basically you are another of those who cant take it that on occasion you'll have to defer to other vulnerable road users who are protected by law........ because 'its not fair' etc etc
When it comes to these cycling threads the lack of compassion for other humans is astounding

I do get some cyclists can be a bit annoying but find the whole thing to be disproportionate, I encountered two cyclist on the way to work today, passed them and didnt think anything about it.
Maybe in some areas there are a lot more cyclists being a lot more annoying than round where I live ? Maybe folk do more driving than I do but I am really not seeing the massive problem some seem to make it into, Its like some are primed and ready to go from zero to apoplectic on seeing Lycra yet then sit behind other cars like stunned mullet for ages without batting an eyelid.
I thing in part its a visible reminder for some that they dont do any exercise, its not usually the fit folk I know moaning about cyclists, I dared go in my local in my cycling gear once (as I was passing, I didnt dress up specially), may as well have been wearing a Gary Glitter T stage costume as the heavy drinking chain smokers really had an issue with cyclists.
I really think its part of it, that and some drivers feel that as they have a motor car the old pecking order should still apply.

I think a lot of cyclist haters have a conflated mental image of "The enemy", which is some "Lycra Clad" middle aged bloke
Doesn't this thread read the other way with what appear to be car haters who believe there are cyclist haters with that image? It's like back in the Cold War when one side believed the other side had far more and bigger weapons than they did, so had to build theirs up to match.
Calm down, ease up, be courteous to other people and enjoy the world
It's always been the case that those with bigger and heavier vehicles have to make allowances for the most vulnerable, no matter what they might do. On the other hand the most vulnerable tend not to make an issue of it, moving aside if something else wants to make progress.
After you Claude. No after you.

So should cyclists show respect for the greater vulnerability of pedestrians?
Yes.Though it's not really a vulnerability thing, apart from a helmet a cyclist isn't better protected than a pedestrian, and they've got less stability and further to fall - it's not like they're strapped into a big metal box and surrounded by airbags. More a matter of them bringing the danger to the situation by dint of speed and hard metal bits.

Doesn't this thread read the other way with what appear to be car haters who believe there are cyclist haters with that image? There are plenty of cyclist haters posting on PH. You can tell who they are because they lump all cyclists together as a big middle-aged lycra-clad red-light-running homogenous group. There are also plenty of (all?) cyclists who don't like bad drivers.
Probably all or nearly all the cyclists who post here are also drivers.

No. Although I can imagine you read it that way.

You have to take a balanced view though - it seems the only people who believe there are cyclist haters are the ones saying it - it's as though theyre looking in a mirror. There are plenty of cyclist haters posting on PH. Obviously the people saying it believe it.
That doesn't mean everyone not saying it doesn't believe it.
It's just word salad.

So should cyclists show respect for the greater vulnerability of pedestrians? Or doesn't it work that way?It should be the same with any vehicle - car or bike.
Did the law sort it out in the end?

Common to see pedestrians wearing ear buds, absorbed by their mobile phones and sometimes even lunging onto pedestrian crossings. How should cyclists treat these irresponsible but vulnerable pedestrians who take scant regard for their own safety?

I'm fine with that

Cautiously. Same as in a car. If you run into a pedestrian on a bike, you're quite likely both to get hurt. You dont have to be a cyclist hater or lover to realise these two should have had the book thrown at them.

If it was this video, everyone would be cheering. It should be the same with any vehicle - car or bike.

Second one was a psychopath, headbutting someone for daring to voice his displeasure.
Both are in London, which I find I need a day or two to adjust to the pace, and the sheer amount of activity, like everyone is in a massive hurry all the time, it mostly seems to muddle along but always someone looking to gain a couple of seconds here or there.
It happens elsewhere but London is the result of nearly nine million people living in close proximity.
