Yes, you are.

But I find myself agreeing with you. I do think it's a generational thing. I am 48 and will have a look at a vid for cars I am interested in/thinking of buying (I really liked Shmee's Alfa 4c one for example) but I couldn't watch this stuff day in and out. The vloggers seems to be under pressure to constantly push content out for a younger audience I assume, hence the drop in quality.

OMG!!! WHY DO ALL OF THE VIDEOS ON THEIR CHANNELS CONTAIN TITLE IN CAPS LOCK. ARE THEY SHOUTING AT US OR DON'T THEY KNOW HOW TO TURN IT OFF?
Put plainly, that's a way to get people/idiots to click on your video.

I've done it once or twice, and hated myself afterwards. I'd never felt so dirty.

It's the old "getting views vs. dignity" argument for me. Dignity usually wins. hehe

Sooooooooo far off tangent now hehe

You're lucky, I have to deal with that here, though I just tend to tell the COO what I want and he deals with that hehe I had enough of stress and working 14 plus hour days travelling all over the UK (and sometimes in Saint Aubin just outside of Paris), so this job is ideal for me. Doesn't pay as much but that is because I had to work a lot of over time. 7 Years is no time, but enough time to be bored of it hehe I have no idea what I would want to do. There may be options in my current company to move departments like others have, just have to wait and see.

Golden rule of IT that NO ONE follows hehe I like the alert packs in SCOM, very definable and the email warnings help. I found NAGIOS less informative, but it is all horses for courses. I did a weeks SCOM course in Leeds in 2015, that was a LONG week hehe

I do not work in a critical environment, though I wouldn't mind having SCOM running, but tbh it is easy enough to log onto a server and check as I only need to worry about 10 prod servers. There is talk of moving servers to the cloud so we will see how that goes. My monitoring goes so far as a powershell script I have that runs daily and sends me a snapshot of the running servers across our domains and tells me how much space is free. Anything with less than 15% I tend to tidy up.
Haha yeah it is the golden rule that no one follows! Damn management. I went down south for a SCOM course recently, can confirm it's not the most interesting thing to watch through a projector, but when you're actually using it it can be quite 'fun' - in a sys admin kinda way!

That 'monitoring' sounds cushty. No wonder you have so much time to come on here and moan wink Haha.

Anyway enough nerd chat!!! hehe

I just wanted to ask and throw something in as well, as many of the comments have been targeted towards the bigger YouTube vloggers. I have a very small channel and going for a completely different approach on vlogging as a car enthusiast. I wanted to know is everyone mostly into just knowing about the newest of cars and what they are like or would others like to see more about a general guy who is just into his cars and really capturing the culture behind it all?

I would put a link up on my channel now but don't want to come across as spam.
The generalist channels really are only interesting if the presenter is interesting. I watch a lot of small channels that have content that is directly related to personal interests. A good example is a small 3k subscriber channel from a guy in the Uk who rides a Daytona 675. I'm in the market for a cheap spanking bike so I watch his channel for feedback on his ownership experience and to see how the bike oerforms in the real world. I don't want someone pointing out the fairing design highlights, I want to see how the bike behaves spanked round wet roundabouts etc. The big channels who just test ride bikes for an hour or two tell me nothing I can't find out myself on a test ride, I like the day in day out log term vlog on what went wrong, niggles etc. Thats the shame of the SC guys who chop and change, I'd much rather watch a guy who runs a F12 daily over a couple of yea bcae ta's wat I'm in the market for, I have zero interest in McLaren test drives, wrapping and other clickbait bumfkery. I'd just much rather watch a normal person sharing their experience for their love of the thing they have than endless bks from talentless fameseekers trying to monetise them talking bks to string out 30 seconds into 15 minutes.

You don't need to change cars with your socks to make good content - I watch Royal Jordanian just for his Nuda, and he produces a lot of stuff which is really interesting as a biker and he never has to clickbait to get his views.

but that's just me, and I'm a grumpy intolerant tt.

Thats the thing that I am trying to really get my grip on, just showing the day to day lifestyle of cars and being involving in the whole scene. Everyone that knows me know me as a guy that is just crazy and I like to think entertaining so I am just trying to find my medium on how to get that across in my videos.

Should be really good to see what you all think of my channel though, getting tips on what could be improved and more on what you would all like to see.

I think the most important thing about anything is just to be real with yourself so with my vlogs its all about just me being me with the cars. Ups and downs.

Just watched Harry Metcalfes vid on the new NSX. That's how it's done. Long video, lots of technical stuff, lots of driving, lots of comfortable chat. Brilliant.

Lol, thats the hardest part for me, coming up with an interesting intro to the video, I just end up being all chilled out.

Ha, I see Archie has sold his Corvette now. Got an offer he couldn't turn down.

Like the chance to film another load of 'What supercar should I buy next?" drives and videos hehe

Enjoying James Martins videos recently.

They bought a 500 quid car which is quite amusing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuMB6zyWP9Q would love to see shmee do the same and join the rally....shmee?

No offence intended to the man personally, as I'm sure he's a decent chap and fully deserving of his success, but I find Shmee a little dull now and have entirely stopped watching his content. To me, everything now just comes across as promotional videos. Even if that isn't the case. There's an audience for that, which is fine, but I personally have moved on to other stuff.

Still checking daily for TGE content. Not entirely sure why...I just find him entertaining to watch. Pretty sure I'd feel the same I if he were talking about iPhones or something.

Anyway guys, all of you, keep it up!

Archie is one of the few Youtube vloggers with a proven ability to be able to drive a bit, not that we see this skill on his channel, however his race results stand as proof.

Why not use that credibility? Maybe do a one make race series for fun and use the youtube exposure to gain some sponsorship or just buy himself a dedicated track day car and upgrade/develop it etc? Could run that parallel with the road car stuff. Make a change from the usual wrapping/exhaust/5 things etc.

Maybe do a series on introducing the other youtubers into the trackday scene and improving their driving as it would make good material for all of them. Road car/supercar stuff is cool but if you are a reasonable standard racing driver why not tap into that aspect too?

I did the same, and then watched the one on the old NSX. Old NSX any day for me! I guess the point is that both really gave a feeling for the merits of both. Excellent videos. He's very chilled and unforced in front of the camera. I wonder if the YouTube numbers are working for him now (I remember him getting a bit annoyed about the editing costs vs revenues).

Different from the rest of the thread, but I am a real fan of Jay Leno's garage. He's a natural, owns all the cars, but generally explains why he owns them well. For example, his introduction to his new Ford GT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-MCdfqL61E

Highly watchable, good detail, and not something I have seen before.

Going back a number of pages where people were questioning Mclaren's focus on YouTubers over say Top Gear.

One point that seems to been of missed is Mclaren will have their own Channel. When their videos are featured after the YT'ers video and people subsrcibe they then grow their own direct marketing channel. That doesnt happen on the telly box.

Haha thanks! New video tonight at 6pm, my twin brother just bought his first supercar, (yesterday). I'll resist the urge to OMG in the title though. Maybe. His first appearance on my channel too, which is cute.
Will have by the end of this month 3 separate series that aren't car focussed, and a further series to come that isn't too; no iPhone chat though planned, yet...!

Wel it appears McLaren may have lost one of its youtube advocates in "Seen through glass"

Sam's McLaren 540c is now for sale with Gravelwood cars. I did see a video recently where he questioned the sense in keeping the car as it was not been driven. The fact that he had been given a Jag to play with for a decent periord and with other OEM sponcered events coming up he would not be driving it. Plus its costing him in finance payments for a car sitting in the garage so I suppose it makes sense
