Over on the barge thread, talk has turned to Japanese imports. It turns out, some pretty interesting stuff that definitely fits within the ethos of this thread, can be had for sensible money.

Just as a taster, have a look at this lovely little thing: https://www.goo-net-exchange.com/usedcars/TOYOTA/C....
Once properly undersealed, there should be no real issues running one of these as the mechanicals are just the same as a Corolla sold here.

Just be warned, though, Goonet is a time thief!

Nice cars these, I had a 440 GLT 2.0 non turbo as a company car for a while. I quite enjoyed it. Nice burgundy colour. Were these cars something else underneath or all Volvo?

Volvo developed but with a lot of Renault running gear. 1.7 turbo swap from a Volvo into a Renault was popular back in the day.

I'd love to know what he spent £7k on in the extensive restoration because it seemingly wasn't on cosmetics. Not that I'd care, I'd still bite his hand off for that price even if I find his claim of a £7k resto to be a bit suspicious. You'd think if they were spending £7k on a resto that the rusty steelies would at least get treated or the faded window frames.

I tend to agree but easy enough to ask to see the invoice.
I remember your CX, shame that didnt work out.

Having bought a BX GTi 8v a few years back that needed some work, and having visited Chevronics in Hitchin where the £7k was spent on this one, i can well believe it.
Anything to do with the hydraulics (so that's steering, suspension or brakes) is complicated and not something i'd attempt on my own drive - hence you pay for the specialist knowledge.

I dont think the BX 4x4 sold in any real quantity and most will have dissolved by now so it really is a case of find another.
This BX4x4 saloon sold at Bonhams/Bicester for £4725 in May21 "believed to be 1 of 4 UK RHD cars left"
https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/26808/lot/54/

Manor park classics (July21) £4312:
https://auctions.manorparkclassics.com/auction/lot...
"Research has revealed that according to DVLA records there is only 3 1990 Licensed BX 4x4 vehicles in UK and 11 with SORN declared. Costing new in 1990, the princely sum of £13,900 which in today’s money is £34,800 which may go so way to explaining the rarity of these interesting vehicles today."

So that's 2(?) of the 4(?) left on the road!

Legal NI plates use the same typeface as mainland plates, Charles Wright New.

I hope a WHOLE lot of work has been done to the underside of that in the last couple of years. MOT failures galore about rust and stuff......

My mum had one very like this in the 90s, right down to the colour. I loved it! It had this ruched grey leather interior - very of its time...

Not too sure if this can be considered classic, old or retro yet but seems very good value -

I wonder if they'll ever not scream "Pensioner" to me. Even now I still think of a Metro as being driven by an 87 year old named Dennis. For £950 it seems a bit of a steal to me, real nice colour too

Believe it or not, these and the 25/200 are really not that bad a motor. The 1.4 is quite a revvy, nippy thing in the 200 but I suspect the performance will be dulled a little in the heavier 45. My Dads missus bought a very late 2.0 diesel Connoisseur. in a lovely shade of metallic blue. It was genuinely a nice thing to run around in. The diesel was especially punchy.

I was thinking that myself. I once bought a Rover Metro as a stop-gap laugh and it had the 1.4 which was decent in that. I don't know what it would be like in a 45 but I can't imagine it to be any good.

That said, I'd still have it!
