I guess the water can flow up the pipe more easily if its stationary but not when the pipe is moving forward as it'd have to have the momentum to flow up a pipe moving away from it, so to speak, as well as overpower the gases coming out, which would build in pressure too, the more the water restricted it.
You are doing a few mph maximum with the engine barely off idle in deep water, the momentum of the water is going to make sod all difference. The reason stopping often causes cause to flood is because you lose the shallow water in front of the car caused by the bow wave, nothing to do with exhaust pipes.

I understand WHY he did what he did. But hindsight being 20/20 of course, he'd have been better off following them at a distance rather than getting his car bashed up for no real reason.

steal a 30k car or 60k car..I personally would have left them unless I had a banger, you will get penalised for being a helper, insurance, police reports etc and potential they come back.

As my air intakes are quite high up, this has inspired me to look up what the wading depth of my car (W211 E-class) is. Nothing quoted by Mercedes but anecdotal evidence is that it's fine up to the sills, and a short wade halfway up the grill causes electrical gremlins that go away when it dries out. I don't think I'll be testing that! biggrin

I work at a distribution centre as a driver and you’ll be surprised (or maybe not) at how many accidents there are like this each week.

Very first clip. Agreed, the biker was a bit reckless but I cannot understand how anyone could not apply the breaks on time and avoid rear-ending him.
The biker comes out at speed, but comes to a standstill when they get on the carriageway? Would be very easy to misjudge in the seconds you have to react if you are expecting them to carry their speed.

What?
There are two things you need worry about, first is the air intake and second is the HT voltage to the spark plugs, nothing else in the engine bay is going to stop the car in a deep puddle. You could end up with some nasty corrosion should it get into any of the electronics, but that's unlikely to happen.

The exhaust on the other hand, at idle (say around 500rpm) enough water can come back up into the exhaust, such that attempting to them move off will choke the engine with basically too much back pressure and cause it to stall, not to mention what would happen if it got as far as the lambda sensor, which given it job, would probably cause the ECU to go nuts and stall the engine.
