How should cyclists treat these irresponsible but vulnerable pedestrians who take scant regard for their own safety?
Buzz them as close to possible, ideally forcing them to walk into things. Head-but them. Whine on forums about lack of numberplates, licenses, training and insurance. Come up with silly ideas to force them off the road.bigothunter said:

If that's the best you've got you should give it up now.
The question is ridiculous.
What are you trying to show with it?
Given the evidence of how cyclists interact with pedestrians, it's a very reasonable question. The question is ridiculous.
What are you trying to show with it?

There are plenty of cyclist haters posting on PH. You can tell who they are because they lump all cyclists together as a big middle-aged lycra-clad red-light-running homogenous group.
That's what I'm talking about, thanks. If I take something from the st driving thread and come up with 'That's how drivers behave' I'll look an idiot. Because it's actually how a small sub-section behave.
You're a driver. Maybe you act like Kenneth Noye?
More likely Ronnie Pickering I'd guess.

Here is a video of a pilot having a scap with someone. All depends on what point you want to make: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ewq9NncD_QM&ab...

There are some people here who want to make out that all cyclists or all drivers hate the other or that the other are all idiots . As we know there are some idiot cyclists and drivers, but trying to make out that as all of one or other only serves to make for an argument.
Unless theyre recognising themselves in ' oh yes I do that - it does wind people up aha ' and using the old 'best means of defence is attack'

Can you point to the cyclists saying all drivers hate cyclists? There are some people here who want to make out that all cyclists or all drivers hate the other or that the other are all idiots . Can you point to the cyclists saying all drivers are idiots?
Name names. Quote them. Or it didn't happen.
edit: there probably are cyclists who feel like that, but you're not likely to find them on PH.

Who cares?
You hate cyclists.
You resent that they're not as accountable as motorists.
You want to break the laws you think don't matter but hold cyclists to the ones you think do.
Oh and you make up stories of 40% lightless cyclists on unlit rural roads. How weird is that.

You have an obsession.
Anyone who posts a video of someone being headbutted and then describes it as 'evidence of how cyclists interact with pedestrians' is clearly well balanced - a chip on each shoulder.

I think a lot of cyclist haters have a conflated mental image of "The enemy"...
A hatred of a particular group of people is pretty irrational behaviour. People with an axe to grind like this tend to irrationally hate all sorts of other 'out groups' as well. The psychology of it is interesting, mixture of attention seeking and virtue signalling I reckon.
Bit weird though

There isn't a level playing field because some road users are more vulnerable than others and some are capable of causing more damage than others.
So should cyclists show respect for the greater vulnerability of pedestrians? Or doesn't it work that way?But what's telling to me is that in the first clip people in the comments (rightly) condemned the cyclist going too close to the pedestrian - but no one even commented on the taxi driver doing exactly the same thing.
It's almost as if there's a confirmation bias going on...

Why not widen it to focus on driving and cycling to avoid breaking laws (or being a numptie) and give respect for others, ditch the animosity to drivers and cyclists.
There that should help make the world go round
I’m a driver and a cyclist. I drive around 10k a year and have done since 1989. I rode around 6-8k a year and have done since 1990. There that should help make the world go round
I take both seriously. I’ve had one car crash and that was when I was rear-ended. I’ve had one SP30 for 35 in a 30 at 2am coming home from redecorating a flat. This so despite many years on fast bikes as well. I had one bike crash due to a mobile phone using driving clipping the back of me as he drifted across a lane on the M3. That ended me biking as I was quite badly smashed up.
I’ve been knocked off my bike cycling twice since 1990. Both times due to drivers who couldn’t wait a matter of seconds to pass and neither of whom stopped. That’s why I spent a lot of money to now ride with a radar. I don’t jump red lights. I’ve never hit a pedestrian or car or horse or whatever.
What I have little time for is drivers with a bizarre hatred of cyclists expecting said cyclist to owe them a living because they’re in a car. Most serious cyclists are also drivers, and there’s a large cross-section of serious cyclists who are also petrol heads.

It's always amusing to read your insults when you run out of steam. And the smileys are a nice touch.

As soon as different sides of a discussion are characterised as 'haters' or 'lovers' there's not a lot of point in continuing.
There are some individual haters around. To deny that seems silly. To characterise all drivers or all cyclists as haters would be moronic. Especially as there's a huge overlap between the two.

I'm fine with that
Common to see pedestrians wearing ear buds, absorbed by their mobile phones and sometimes even lunging onto pedestrian crossings. How should cyclists treat these irresponsible but vulnerable pedestrians who take scant regard for their own safety?
The same as you would in a car.Common to see pedestrians wearing ear buds, absorbed by their mobile phones and sometimes even lunging onto pedestrian crossings. How should cyclists treat these irresponsible but vulnerable pedestrians who take scant regard for their own safety?
They are vulnerable so you do your best to keep things safe and keep everyone's day moving.
Nobody deserves physical punishment for being stupid, unobservant , irresponsible, selfish... etc etc

Different scenarios. It's almost as if there's a confirmation bias going on...
The taxi traversed the crossing when it was unoccupied by pedestrians. Unlike the rogue cyclist who attempted to traverse whilst pedestrians were crossing.
If the taxi had attempted the same manoeuvre, he would have been rightly castigated...
