Is there anything extra special about this SLR ?
Hi there,

Its a MSO McLaren edition, and this car was actually the prototype.

Hi there,

I have been lucky enough to see a few Veyrons in my time but the spec on this one was superb.

Matt and Gloss Grey Vitesse edition.

Tim

some very cool and rare stuff in there, but it's the Pantera by far and away that I get excited by the most
yes That and the One-77 for me out of your photos. There was a yellow Zonda there and a red (what else) F50 on Sunday, both of which I positively drooled over, and would take my lottery win first though.

One thing though - that Senna. Frankly WTF were Mclaren doing?!? Yes, I know it's supposed to out-perform last year's F1 car and the RAF's best fighters and probably the Space Shuttle too, but it looks even worse in the flesh than in the photos - so badly resolved it's untrue, like the stylists were told to fk-off and the apprentice engineers let loose with the crayons for a change. I'd be embarrassed to be seen in one, quite honestly, and if I was part of the Senna family I'd be having a word or two with Ron...NOT a fitting tribute to the great man.

Is that One-77 not the last one (as depicted on the window)?

They should've made this. Beautiful thing. The original prototypes with the special engine sounded like a superbike on ecstacy, amazing things.

How on earth is that front end legal? Leaving aside the complete lack of style or taste, of course.

TBF it was never intended to be "resolved"
It was always about function over form as a track car
For the owners I know it does it very well, it now holds the road car record for spa.
It is plug ugly though!

Its a cynical marketing lead exercise that holds all the 720 hard points and it's genuinely amazing they sold them all.

Not the only one
A couple of guys I know who have them say it too stiff for the roads, even in the softest settings.
But then I'm guessing an Aston Vulcan suffers the same issue, well it would if it was road legal wink

Mikey - I know they've stated it was never intended to be resolved, but have you ever seen Ferrari make an ugly F-car? That attitude is what I struggle with - surely it would have taken comparatively little to improve the styling considerably, while taking almost nothing away from the performance?!?

The problem is, for a lot less money you can get a quicker ex-GT3/GTE-class car (once de-restricted). So why, other than willy-waving, would you buy a Senna? 720S by all accounts far superior on road, GT3 car quicker (and probably superior to drive on-track), plus change in your pocket...

It's going to depreciate like a stone, give it a couple of years and you'll be able to buy a good looking car for half the price with better performance, and then what's it worth? It's hideous and sounds like a fart in the bath tub.

Well he seems to have damned the car after spending 'a fair few days' with it but seemingly only 50 miles. Which is fair enough I suppose but not having tracked the car, I struggle to see how he then felt that the car was the same as a 720 with a tune or something like that.

As mikey k says, the Senna has been taken around Spa under 2:25 (vbox recorded). Cynically lead marketing exercise or not that is a breathtakingly quick time for a road legal car (and I see utterly no point in comparing to a GT3 race car which requires slicks and a team of mechanics to run). The Manthey modified gt2rs on Cup2 R tyres which are considerably stickier than Trofeo Rs only managed 2:31 by comparison so whatever one might say about the Senna's looks or Mclaren's marketing, the car has actually delivered on it's design brief to be quick.

Put in short he just said that it wasnt any different from the other supercars of the moment and bored him, there was no excitement from it and as much as he could appreciate it was fast just did nothing in terms of connecting with the car.
He had a few issues with it too - loose carbon on the steering wheel, a loose piece of carbon under the bonnet and the fact there was no arches on the front wheels meant stones were constantly hitting the body. its on the 2manycars thread if you want to read his full thoughts on it.
He has told his PA to get it sold and is going back to collecting some classics.
