These are the fast-ish (for their time!) estates I have owned...

1995 BMW 540i 6 speed manual Touring - Orient blue, black sports leather interior, one of 62 rhd 540i/6 Tourings, completely standard and super minty...

When that got written off I replaced it with a thread favourite, a 1993 M5 BMW Touring; black, black, blackity black including the headlights. This are almost always listed as 'rare' but there were 891 made compared to 561 E34 540i six speed Tourings...

When the engine blew and the rest of the car got beyond repair I replaced it with this - a 2001 E39 Alpina B10 V8 Touring, one of 248 (pre and post facelift) made and only 14 made in right hand drive, 10 pre and 4 facelift cars...

I still have that one but when I bought the 540i and starting nerding up on E34's I discovered that Alpina made just E34 B10 4.6 Touring in right hand drive. It has the same 340bhp as the M5 of the time but almost 25% more torque. It hadn't ever been spotted since an obscure magazine article when it was delivered and I had fallen in love with E34 Tourings. Years after I bought the B10 V8 Touring it popped up perhaps for sale so I kept my selfish promise to myself and went out and bought it unseen...

They probably aren't fast now but back in 1995 the M5 and Alpina B10 BiTurbo were considered quick enough and the B10 4.6 will happily and easily keep company with them and unlike them, was available as a right hand drive estate.

Likewise the Alpina B10 V8 and V8S were hot on the heels of the E39 M5 being (on paper) a fraction of a second behind it, and again, were available as right hand drive estate. A recent dragstrip test of the three cars lent more credence to the long held rumour that Alpina were a little conservative in their quoted power figures...

I’d say so.
It’s definitely fast, and it’s definitely an estate.

Would love to hear your ownership thoughts…if prices carry on collapsing I could be tempted.
Very early days, 4 days of ownership in fact, but I absolutely love it. It's ballistically fast, probably the most comfortable thing I've ever driven, peanute to run, and it seems to cope with the school run and 2 kids under 4 effortlessly.

I've used the public charging 3 times now and no issues although I do have a home charger being installed today. Can't fault it so far I absolutley love it Porsche really know how to put a car together.

Happy to answer any specific questions

Sorry O/T - how’s the reliability of public charging? Everything I hear is that “the public fast chargers are great when they work, but they’re out of service 50% of the time when you arrive so it’s a pain and you can’t rely on them for a long journey”

Yes although I don't live there now. I have a pic of my old daytona grey B7 RS4 in Majuba car park but as it's not as estate I shan't be posting it!

Some key information missing here, though by inference it seems as though there was only ever one made in RHD and that you own it? eek

I’m probably not the right person to answer this but the 3 times I’ve tried to use one there’s been multiple available. The majority of people who actually own an EV seem to speak very positively of them

That is correct, they only made 1 RHD E34 B10 Touring and McGee_22 has it.

I thought I recognised that first photo, my saved eBay search of V8 & BMW’s threw up this half finished kit car last week - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285593428937?mkcid=16&a...

From the photos in the eBay advert I think the running gear from your 540i lives on in it.

Cheers.

Yep, the guy got in touch about the engine so I did the decent thing and sent him the car history. TBH I’m a bit surprised he hadn’t finished it after all this time - it’s got to be way over 16 years ago the car was written off.

I had parked outside a friends house for a New Year party and a sleepy taxi driver made sure the the car went from looking like this...

...to this...

It doesn't initially look that bad but the chassis rail, front subframe and A-pillar were all deformed so the car was written off grumpy

As we bid a flamboyant 'arrivederci' to Bormio and heartily greet Chatel with a 'bonjour', the car, now resembling a mobile ski lodge crammed with six pairs of skis, embarked on its odyssey. We breezed through Milan, the car's winter tyres squirming uncomfortably under the 24-degree heat, a far cry from the icy conditions they're accustomed to. Our journey then took us to the majestic Aosta, and through the Saint Bernardino tunnel where, to our relief, customs officers spared us the inquisition they seemed to reserve for Swiss and Italian vehicles. With a respectful nod to speed limits – more by necessity than choice – we snaked our way through Switzerland. And now, here we are in Chatel, our alpine adventure poised to continue…..

Bit of an Audi RS fan.
Started way back in 2006 with a new B7 RS4 Avant in Avus Silver (sorry no pic), 2010 TTRS Convertible in Suzuka Grey (no pic), 2015 B8 RS4 Avant in Sepang Blue and currently a 2017 C7 RS6 Avant in Nardo Grey.
Merry Christmas everyone!

If ever I thought any of my old heaps even qualified as quick-ish that’s been ruled out. A friend just took me out in his tweaked 2018 AMG E63S estate tweaked to a mere 770bhp.

My personal recalibration of ‘fast’ is now complete and I can confirm both my pair of Alpina’s are now classified as ‘old and slow’.

The only thing I can compare it’s acceleration too is a Tesla in ludicrous mode, but of course it’s so much more than that with the fabulous noise and ICE sensations.

I don't know if its fast by todays standards buts it certainly doesn't look fast on rusty steel wheels. Its a de-badged E500.
