Stupid things non petrolheads say....

Who's pretending??
You can believe who you like, but you're making yourself look pretty stupid with this issue. There is plenty of REAL information out there not written by wannabe 'journalists' who regurgitate crap someone else imagined. Read Graham Robson's book on Cosworth 'The Search For Power' plenty on the 6R4 engine in there where he compares David Wood's design to the DFV, Merc 190 engine and the GA. Look at a V64V and note the design compred to a Buick/Rover. Perhaps a peek at the picture above of the floorpan of ours when we reshelled it compared to a picture of a Maestro?
Then wind your neck in.

You really are a star aren't you?! LOL!!
It was reshelled with a genuine ARG shell from the Motorsports division. It was a slightly later spec with regard to door bars, but STILL wasn't Maestro based!! and it didn't affect how not Rover the engine was!!
You do KNOW what a 6R4 is, don't you?? LOL!
You ARE the person this thread was made for, aren't you?!

not to pour petrol on this but.. well ok, I am pouring petrol on this, but we all love a bit of combustion here right?
I was always under the impression it (the V64V) was a bespoke engine, not derived from a Rover V8 and having more in common with the DVF (Dave used to work at Cosworth). Also later used in the XJ220 and some Jag Group C cars. As whats'is face above said they did use a hacked up Rover V8 to begin with but I don't think that engine ever raced in Group B (although it did enter in some national rallies but this was more testing than actually racing).
So I googled it, as you do.. and can't find any evidence that the hacked up V8 was used for Group B.. or that it used a Maestro floor pan.

Spot on. But some people like to regurgitate internet myth. If it was a Rover V8 I wouldn't have paid £25K for a second hand one when the one in the car dropped a valve.I was always under the impression it (the V64V) was a bespoke engine, not derived from a Rover V8 and having more in common with the DVF (Dave used to work at Cosworth). +1, hence this thread is aimed at people like shirley Because fergs profile said that he was fairly local I just spent age searching for a picture of the 6r4 I watched tearing around brands last year to see if it was blue. It wasnt, but because I had to look for it im going to post it anyway just for the sake of it

Do you two want to get a room so we can get back on with the main thread, please?
Or shall we rename it "stupid arguments PHers have..."?
I'm very sorry to have caused you to post that. 'Stupid argument' is a bit strong though. As you can see I was merely trying to correct some very incorrect information which is often bandied about on the internet and repeated by people like our farmer friend. As this is a car-enthusiasts site I'd have thought that correcting mis-information was a worthy passtime. Or shall we rename it "stupid arguments PHers have..."?
can I just ask.. how exactly does one take a Rover V8, lop two cylinders off and "weld it back together" (as it has been described somewhere, possibly in this thread, possibly somewhere else, much akin to how the engine in the Veyron is two Veees "welded" together)?
hmm.. on that note here's a good "stupid thing non petrolheads say...."

A V8 is two four cylinder engines stuck together
From the "how to build a supercar" advermentary on the MP4-12CYou'd think Ronny with his super-duper attention to detail would have paid attention to a show all about his company and it's product and pointed that out.. and also pointed out that the "how a engin wurks" animation was doin it rong.. rather than pointing out that he deliberately kept a broken floor tile (a trip hazard and breeding ground for germs) rather than replace it with one a very slightly different shade of white.
Ron Dennis = utter tool

Let's get this back on track:
I recently went to a branch of a national car stuff centre, the name is a portmanteau comprised of 50% of Sir Hugh's surname. I digress.
Me: "I'm looking for a socket to take the spark plugs out of a BMW straight six. They're the coil pack ones recessed in the head so I need a fairly long socket with thin walls."
Said item was duly located, and to be fair is of good quality and allowed completion of the job.
As I was leaving the manager came to speak to me. Sensing a fellow mechanical type he decided to offer the following wisdom re fitting new plugs: "Don't do them up too tight. You'll break the solenoid"
Of course I will. The starter motor may never recover.

The starter isn't the only component with a solenoid -_-Of course I will. The starter motor may never recover.
