Bloody hell lol. I think with dateless plates the tester is much less likely to note that it's been mis-spaced to be honest.. If it's a current format plate then it's usually really obvious but something like the above might be a bit more ambiguous or not draw as much attention?

A rather liberal reading of the manual by the tester (see 8.2.2.1a) wink

Saw my best one for a while at the weekend, 1 REG on a Mclaren 650S, in Catford..

Sold for £12750 back in 1992, anyone know of its more recent sales history; or cars it has been registered to?

Saw the plate AI or it could have been A1 on a Black Mini Cooper in Reading at the weekend. How much would a plate like that cost? Our director of AI would love it.

Yep A1 - one of those plates that must be worth far more than the car it's attached to.

I'm guessing 100k+ not sure where you find previous selling price from (the zoopla of plates?). I have spotted a plate I like but as it's newer than my car I wouldn't be able to put it on until new car time. Can you buy it and hold it without it being assigned to a vehicle?

You should have snapped a pic, that Mini was only recently MOT'd for the first time in 11 years. It has sub 1K miles

Easy £500K+ plate

there is a search on the DVLA website, only covers plates sold at auction by the DVLA...

yes, you can buy a plate and hold it on retention and then put it on your car when you have one new enough...

Not the best plate in the world but at least they haven't "butchered" it.
