Alert to the fact my Bearding skills are fading fast and now living on the outer reaches of ‘Thread’ if I could ask for some collective wisdom on a crate I’m on the cusp of laying some loot upon.

About 25k on the dial, full service with all the right people and under twenty bags, utter madness or still curiously Beard?

I've only ever been in one AWD car on track and that was a Lancer whatever with a similar amount of poke. The experience was hilarious due to being encouraged by the car to lob it into the corners and power out all wheels spinning with the car at lurid angles. Driving it as I had been driving the E30 was not as much fun and so ultimately a set of slicks were duly demolished.

Do neither the red or yellow car appeal for a purer experience?

How much to hire out your 7er?
The Continentals on the rear are new so it's probably not the cheapest way to mad Friday...

Personally, I'd go and purchase this http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3964088.htm from bmthnick1981 (sometimes of this thread)

The 740i is ideal for Germany, the 750il will be hand for France. A massive rear bench and double glazing will aid sleep

Since I moved the 26R on I’ve been keeping a keen eye open for a new track weapon, accordingly the thoroughly charming Kerridges’ near to me suggested an Impreza Type 25

Initially I was pretty indignant to a the thought of being the biggest fish in Tesco’s car park late on a Friday night but when you dig a bit deeper you realise these are anything but.

I spoke with Litchfield’s yesterday and apparently this one had even more cabbage spent on it last year and now has about 460 gee gee’s at the engine and has also had a load spent on some very expensive Performance Friction stoppers fitted.

Hello stranger, hope you are well? Good to see you back among The Threadnoscentismile

Having road and tracked Imprezas I feel I am able to comment.......

Having previously dabbled with both Lancers and Imprezas they are truly savage road cars and will devour an A or B road with the kind of aplomb that most supercars would require balls of steel to match.

However, I would not pick one as a trackday toy. I know that within a couple of laps of Coombe I was a tad frustrated (nay bored) at the eye bending grip. Yes, they can (and will) drift like a good 'un but you will destroy tyres within an afternoon and more than likely be thrown off the trackday by the marshalls.

I would possibly consider one as a do-it-all road car but having been there and done that I'm not sure if I would go back, may I ask what the logic was/is in outing the Megane and what the grand plan is for the replacement?

Definitely an impressive bit of kit and probably about as good as it gets for a trackday car that doesn't leave you're vital organs hanging out the sides.
Interesting perspective. Mine is entirely the opposite.

They Scoobies (and their Lancer foes) are truly exceptional road cars. But they pale into the underwhelming when on track. They seem to be prone to breakdowns when on circuit and don't deliver in either of the two ways cars make snappy circuit progress: they're not fast on the straights like M-cars or Porsches, and they don't dance through corners like the FWD crowd.

Overall, IMO and from watching them on trackdays, they simply don't deliver on track.
They look a bit awkward with so much space to move about in.

Rally Rejects are quick on the road as they're able to get the most out of their tyres in a confind space, on track this benifit is lost.

They're hideous money to track as well, push on and tyres will be dead as a dead thing in a very short time

I wonder if any other PHers have a massively reliable yet frugal bargain barge for sale?

Welp, I just bagged the last PH camping ticket for Le Mans. Now my only dilemma is HOW to get there.

Either -

1. Hope car is fixed. This is not looking likely. It is certainly not going to be available this weekend, so then will I have it by Thursday morning? Do I risk waiting for it? Garage has been less than commital on this front.

2. Hire a car. Safe, but possibly pricey for a continental jaunt.

3. Travel with a mate of mine who is going, but a day after my crossing and miss the Friday Service (and qualifying). They are also staying in a different campsite, which obviously throws up logistical issues. Even though I have paid for a crossing, this is probably the cheapest option.

4a. Buy a TVR (Chimaera).

4b. Buy a bargain barge.

Aaahhh, decisions.
I'll be driving over on the Thursday morning - have a 6am crossing booked and space in the car if needed

That is SO tempting. I could see the rear tyres being an issue though, surely? And it is in Dorset. I'm in Essex. wink

Should be fine there and back + mad friday. If they die on the Friday then buy some more in France. I'm sure that in a country where a Laguna is considered a luxury car, that size won't be a problem... biggrin

Watcha and thanks for the Threadists thoughts on the T25, this is the power of Threading as I felt deep down that however appealing this was on the surface there was something of a nagging doubt.

The 26R was a cracker but I need to be a little careful but after my ‘incident’ at Zandvoort, subliminally it became soiled goods. Nothing wrong with the car at all but somehow it was time to part company. That said if you haven’t driven one you really ought to, without doubt one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. Another one perhaps?

Norf’s going through real ‘transitional phase’ and as such I’m going to have crack at auctioning two of the Dee Tee’s, they really haven’t turned a wheel in a year and unfortunately the storage facility I use has been forced to close. Alas there really isn’t anywhere else close enough to make it practical proposition so factor in ever increasing parental responsibilities and I rather think the time is right.

To cap it all I had the Guara run off the road last weekend by some shaven headed oik, looks like I need a new sump but she’ll be staying good while yet.

Off to Le Mans next week, with the Guara poorly I'm borrowing my dear old mum's Alpina B3 BT whoch will provide adequate transport

Frankly, I'd pay half the price for one with twice the miles. (Though I'd shy away from that genre of C Class entirely unless it as unavoidable)

Find a nice W124 saloon.

Sorry to hear the DT's are parting, although in the grand scheme of things (and growing up) it does seem to make sense.

With regards the 26R/Impreza et al dilemma......what would the car be used for?

Trouble is Davidius a good mate and indeed PH Illuminati came out with a line that has wrung in my ears ever since.

“The trouble is we have done it to death”

He was spot on, with the Listergate affair and simply never ever having the time to use the Dee Tee’s you really do start to wonder why, as you rightly say its growing up but forty two isn’t exactly archaic?

I did have an offline discussion with Heir V8 last week, this condition has gotten so bad I got to point where I couldn’t ever offer up much in the way of Thread input, quite alarming when it happens you know

Best foot forward with chopping the old ML out for something fractionally more athletic as a daily smoker, I’m thinking Spec B Legacy Estate with some suitable bonnet plumage, a silver pheasant ought to do the trick?
