It seems you can have all sorts of customisation to plates in Victoria. Colours, footie teams, car makes, you name it.

Sorry to come back so late with a negative response...but the plate's not original. 1992 DVLA issue. AA was never reversed. Still, £3200 22 years ago would be a pretty good investment today, IMHO...

The M 42 plate was on the 42nd car registered in Cheshire after 1903
A 1 was the first plate for London in 1903

I know this because I have M 600

All 'single letter first' plates are original 1903/4 plates. Most 'two letter first' plates are also usually pretty early - generally pre WW2 - although there were a few slow issues right through to 1964.
There were a handful of original 'single letter last' plates (D, E, F, H, K, N, U & W. These are all late 50's / early 60's, issued when the other combinations were running out. Not all were issued 1 through 9999; for instance, Kent only issued 2 D - 5700 D in 1964; 1D and any later ones were sold by DVLA.

On that same journey I also saw a Fiat Ducato with the plate X70 NOX, spaced X 70NO X with the 7 bent to look like a J. Berks.
