We think this might be a better buy, although we're unconnected and haven't seen the car it has at least been enthusiast owned and had recent work (and is damned cheap!)

As much as I love a laugh, I'd be having those stickers away and spending the afternoon giving it a good polish*

All yours for £700 on some sensible wheels.

I saw that car several times when I was at Le Mans - looked great. Shame it wasn't a T5 though!

Right, I know its over budget (but a haggle will get it closer!), but I feel this fits in better here rather than the 1-5k thread.

Rare to see an old bus like this in such nice shape - it really looks minty fresh and the same owner for the last 13yrs!

Its only the 10v, but thats still more than adequate in these. Completely bullet proof and will literally last forever.

If you could nab it for nearer £1400 its all the car you could ever realistically need and to my eyes still looks class (very much old money!)

Its a 7 seater too.

It is tidy, yes. But that's too much money for one with the slower engine and no leather imho

Totally spot on re the velour. It looks sumptuous where leather by now would look like the skin of Magda from 'Something About Mary'

I'd be happy rocking about in that. A dateless numberplate wouls make it look like over £1500 worth of car.

Nice find.

Ha! This was on the rally to Naples I was on in 2012. It's doing well.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of it in action but this was its 'Sister ship'. Sadly it packed up just south of Rome on the last day...

How about this a Lexus LS400 V8 "DHP" link to PH advert

I assume DHP is the handling pack mentioned in the advert, it ticks a good few boxes, V8 with lots of toys - though i'm not convinced that 2 ton cars need "handling packs" but as a fellow V8 lexus owner (though mines a bit newer!) this has to be top value.

Looks lovely - was looking for something like this to run about in while I sell my current car and find something else. However, just rang my insurer (Flux) to see what it would cost to insure it ..... £600! I'm only paying £160 for a 2.8v6 modified Saab with them!. Apparently they find very cheap cars are expensive to insure..

If I'm not mistaken the last couple of owners are PH'ers.

Yep, it's mine! smile

The two previous owners before me were PH'ers too.

Oddly I found the mainstream insuers much better for it - try confused.com for a quote. I'm with Chris Knott and they wanted the best part of £500. I wanted to stick with them as I've always found their service pretty good so had to haggle with them using a comparison quote from confused. I got fully comp at 10k miles a year for £250 in the end.

Yeah - just tried moneysupermarket and they quoted me about £270 (if I used my NCB with them). Might see what my Saab insurance changes to if I remove the NCB from that.

I'm looking to sell the Saab, but it'll take a while to get a decent price for it - it's an unusual and rare spec. Plan was to get a bargain barge to use while it sells and while I find a replacement. If insurance is a pain, I might just keep using the Saab and buy a £500 Focus/Astra when it sells.

Even if you got it for sub £1400, it is still too expensive.

A good price would in my humble opinion be around £800

£800 is what you pay for a normal one.

You pay the premium for the assured history and low owners.

To me its an ideal shedding car... extremely simple and almost unburstable drive train, not too many electronics to trip you up, still looks extremely presentable, practical, and like I say... an immaculate history / pedigree.

Examples like that will never be sub £1k, simply because there are too many people on the look out for good cars. I like it because you could tool around in it and no-one would know if you are joe bloggs or some sort of landed gentry. Its completely classless in the best possible way.
I disagree - a true bargain bargista pays as little as possible for cars just like that, or moves on - lets see how long it is on sales for! Just because it is one owner, low miles or whatever doesn't mean there is something waiting to go wrong on it - it is still an old car!

ETA - if it was something desirable or interesting then thong would possibly be different.

Depends on what you are interested in I suppose.... FWIW I think that V70 is actually quite desirable!

Having played the 'sheddiest of the sheds' game a few times and sold all of them on when the bork arose, id actually advocate spending just a little bit more for something that is likely to last a whole lot longer and with much less heartache.

Any car can trip you up (shed or otherwise), but you can certainly manage the risks... I think you would be mad to buy a sheddy V70 of the same era for £800, when for potentially £1400ish you could have the one I linked too... and the same applies to all manner of cars.
That will sell for that sort of money.

I know of a similar age one that sold for £1400 last year, with 140k on it! People shouldn't underestimate how sought after and popular the second gen V70s are!

Very early, very basic 230E - it even has wind up windows. Its currently at £197 with less than an hour to go, I hope it creeps up to prevent me having a punt hehe I reckon some period 15 hole alloys, a good spruce up and service could have a tidy retro runaround there.

Lovely 230e, and im only in soton, she's in bournemouth. If only I'd passed my test, and insurance was cheaper.

INsurance on the merc. currently £210 is £1500 to £7500 fully comp with my parents as named drivers. justa quick confused.com search, not a specialiased classic car insurer.
