Bought blind on ebay for £690 to use as a snotter. Mostly motorway miles, 182 cup suspension, alloys and brakes. Recent clutch, cambelt and good service history. £20 a year tax, insurance next to nothing.
Figured it was worth a punt as it was worth more in parts. Trip computer got up to an astonishing 81mpg on long motorway trip home 60mpg more than my current daily driver!
I'm actually amazed at the general condition of the bodywork, interior etc. Only thing i've found wrong is the drivers seat doesn't fold forward and a bulb has gone behind the heater controls.

Girlfirend: "I'll be glad when your new car gets delivered, this one has been completely unreliable since you got it"
Me: "I can't think of anything that's gone wrong with it in the 8 months that I've owned it"
Her: "Well, there was that puncture and you had to take it to the garage twice (once for a service, once for an MOT - which it passed with no advisories)"
Woman at work: "Why have you ordered a SKODA Superb for your company car"
Me: "More interesting than the other choices and better VFM"
Her: "But it's a SKODA! It'll keep breaking down"
Me: "Yeah, that's true - the components used to build your Audi A3 are of far higher quality!"
Not a misogynist or anything, but these sorts of comments do usually seem to come from women.
My good lady said of my Alfa 147 very similar comments - "Glad to see the back of it, been so unreliable, cost a fortune etc."Me: "I can't think of anything that's gone wrong with it in the 8 months that I've owned it"

Me: "Nothing has ever gone wrong in it, ever. Do you mean getting the cam belt replaced? Or getting it serviced?"
Her: "Exactly. Always spending money on it..."
I tried to make her understand that cars need service parts but she wouldn't have it.
Kids are the same - they have this odd idea that a new car is much better because it's newer. I have got a little Seat Ibiza 1.2 TS FR, and whilst it is a cracking little car, it is not as nice as my Alfa, not as well built, less gadgets, but nevertheless the kids all believe it is better because its only a couple of months old!

Mrs. GBB knows that depreciation is a killer and servicing costs neglible by comparison, thus running 3 cars is absolutely fine as long as they are all old ones.
My kids have been taught that in real life car top trumps, number of cylinders tops anything else. Hence my V8 is infinitely cooler than the new Porsche down the road.

I can't tell if you're joking or not.Bloke I used to work with turned up a few hours late for a big meeting.
When I asked where he'd been, he explained that he had to call the AA as he'd had a puncture and couldn't work out how to get the hubcaps off the car.
I pointed out that his car features alloys and therefore does not have hubcaps hence his problem.
He also stated that he didn't like driving in Cornwall because 'Have you seen some of the corners down there?'

Half and half. The Porsche is by far the better car but in terms of fun per £ then the E39 isn't far off in their eyes (plus they can get 3 other friends into mine). I looked at a nice A8 the other day and my 12yr old told me that it wasn't worth the extra £4K on top of what mines worth (about a grand). Far too sensible for their own good.
Best go looking at S8's then, an extra 2 cylinders for your 12 year old to help justify your purchase withEDLT said:

You can probably lease a Fiesta for £99 a month and Chevrolet have been making cars for a very long time. Goodluck getting one with an engine for that price!?

I could be wrong here but weren't they also the first to use 3 pedals a steering wheel and a central gear lever?

If you believe a certain motoring program it was Cadillac that standardised on the pedal and gearlever position that is generally regarded as normal. Austin then made the layout popular by adopting it for the Seven. Or so they said. Having not researched it myself I couldn't say how accurate the information is.I could be wrong here but weren't they also the first to use 3 pedals a steering wheel and a central gear lever?
